I mentioned that I was working on some globe valves, and here are some progress pics. I didn't go for the ultra miniature valves: I took notice of the advice and went for the middle way! These globe bodies are 10mm diameter, which makes them just nice. I have yet to finish the through valve for the injector (the one on the right). It is drilled inside at an angle from both ends, so that should be interesting! I haven't made anything like this before, and here are some method pics for those who might be interested: Drilling a .032" hole in some gauge plate to start off the form tool. The globe radius was a simple filing job and the tool hardened and polished. The front clearance was achieved by sloping the plate. A good whack with a centre punch made sure the carbide drill behaved itself! A bit of top rake was ground on after hardening. The form tool in use: that's bronze, not brass! Preparing the body on the Proxxon for the nipple insertion........! The spindles have to be retained by the valve, so I got some 2mm stainless, threaded it, and made the conical piece separately. It was silver soldered on and trued up in a collet. All in all, quite straighforward, but very fiddly! JB

Hi,
I have to agree with BigT.
JB's photography is always superb. The main thing is that it is in focus!!
I like the form tool as well. What a neat job it makes.
Chris.
