Hi Everybody I'm currently in the process of designing the valvegear for my 3 1/2" gauge NG15 loco. I've scaled down the original valvegear and then popped the values into Allan Wallace's valvegear simulator. With I bit of tweaking here and there, I've got the ' family' of indicator diagrams that can be found in the images section - modeleng.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=Images&action=display&thread=1096147031 Any thoughts, good bad or ugly. Is there excessive compression when the gear is notched up? There is a slight bit of lost symmetry due to the valve events not being quite central but this can be sorted when the valves are fitted to the rods. I look forward to the replies ! Cheers Dave

It looks OK, but I would double-check it on two other programmes. Charlie Docstaders one, and Bill Hall's.
That will, at least, eliminate any errors on the computing side, and just might show up any anomalies.
In practice, you can find an engine running and running well, when the diagram looks horrendous. And, of course, a simulation may or may not turn ut to resemble an actual diagram taken from the engine when finished.
It is a good start though!
