If anyone saw my first post it was to do with 3D CAD modelling and lost wax casting, here is another one showing some more of my work using 3D wax printing for the use in lost wax cast some scale items. This model has been created using works drawings and then scaled down and adjusted slightly to allow for printing/casting limitations and feasibility of manufacture when it comes to making it. The idea is to have the valve fully working both steam and vacuum so some design changes had to be made when it came to the internal porting for the steam brake but other than that everything is how it should be. So progress so far is that the model has been finished and I have had the main body and the valve face/cylinder for the vacuum side printed and cast in wax by Mike in New Zealand and hopefully will be on there way here in the next few days so I thought I would share a few images of it so far and I will hopefully keep updating as we work on the prototype in the workshop when I am home from uni and hopefully make a batch of these if they are successful.
(I know its missing the ON/OFF)
The wax printed model
The first casting
The Vacuum disc/cylinder casting Mike is also having a go at printing/casting a few lamps I drew up and I want to experiment with these a bit more as I have quite a few modeled I think people would like but currently we are finding that the handles are extremely delicate in wax form but we will get there! Cheers, Adam

Cheers guys, I am pretty happy so far and once this is sorted in 5" I will most likely do 7 1/4" as well.
Julian, Happy to give it a go if you have a set of drawings - preferably the works drawings as I can get it just right, always happy to add more items to the list.
Adam

Adam if you can get a dreadnought in 5" gauge you are doing well! There are all manner of silly ports and even more silly valves within the damn things! On top of that there are at least 4 types of it, left and right hand with external steam supply and left and right hand backhead mounted. If you happen upon a LH backhead mounted one then 847 could do with it! It's a pain in the proverbial having to reach the handle on the RH side, when trying to look out at the same time!

I will have a good go a it Ben, the only problem with this one was the internal porting for the steam brake, when you have a passageway that in full size is only 0.25" wide when it is scaled down its roughly 20 thou you have two issues, a) not being able to remove the support wax fully and b) I highly doubt they would be large enough to supply enough steam to operate the brakes of something like a Duchess properly but it would be really nice to do a 100% scale one at some point I have emailed Julian and hopefully will have a look at the drawings he has and go from there Any more suggestions of things I can try? Scale Wakefield and Silvertown mechanical lubies? Not working ones but they could be hollow and used as oil pots?

I have just emailed someone who may have drawings for those but they are also on the 'to do' list.

I want a drawing for the ratchet box for a Wakefield, but I'm struggling to find the drawing in the list of drawings in York achive...nothing 'Wakefield' has yet produced a result.

Cheers mate! TR no. 3 has a Wakefield box, and I think the BR Standards used the same, pretty sure my DH drawings show it, but that only has the machining details obviously. It's for my Manning Wardle so not accurate anyway, but I like the shape of it...need to 3D print to get the text right! Failing all else I'll have to try and catch up with 3...she's at the SVR still at the moment I think

Shouldn't be a problem and I have had a few people ask for it too so will see what I can find and hopefully Ben might come up with something if I can't.
I am very much after the speedo covers for BR Std's as quite a few people are asking for it, do you think they will have that at the Bluebell Ben? Adam

Possibly Adam, if not then a chap on the South African modelling group on Facebook has just had some done very nicely for his 15F (I think) they are the wrong scale for us but he would have had the drawings to make his version of them, might be worth an ask??

Ben, I thought I remembered seeing someone out there who had done them but couldn't remember where but I will possibly get in touch, thanks! Paul, I have done both the pedestal and the steam brake but both of these items came with the loco as an assortment of parts when I bought the chassis, the pedestal was a Hewson Kit and the steam brake valve was a Dave Noble item. Here are the only shots I have on my pc of the cab, Adam

For anyone interested I was asked if a 3 1/2" dummy version could be done, here is the model and its just been sent off to the printer too see if it will be doable. Adam
