Grind some clearance underneath and it'd make a good boring tool for through holes. I assume the tip your using is an SNMG or SPUN?

Correct - It is a type SNMG1003. Grinding off the underside would not really be possible because of the position of the locating pin. Nice idea though. Any further suggestions gladly accepted.

--------- and dig-up your own iron ore for self-smelting......grind your own paint pigments and collect any items yourself on horseback from a supplier rather than use this "Post Office" thingy ( It'll never catch on--- or this Devils Brew called Electrickery !! )....Bah-Humbug !!............. Ah, feeling much better now...

You have a good point there. Electric motors are cheating, we should be working on a treadle lathe. It is not in the spirit of model engineering to use a DRO, measurement should be by calipers and steel rule. The only acceptable method of machine lighting is candle or oil lamp. Did someone hide a spy-cam in my shop? Tom

Perhaps you could slice out a wedge on the right hand side, and bend to close up, then weld. It would present the tip at a more useful angle.
