I saw this recently on another forum and is an absolute bargain for anyone interested in South African steam and perhaps looking for full size drawings: www.sarsteam.co.za/pid-604-info.htmlIt's a shame the site is closing down as it is a very useful reference. I bought the 25NC drawings some time ago and they are excellent quality. I'm hoping the offer will last till pension day so I can get the complete collection! John

I can't imagine they'll sell more than a handful of those. In the end I expect someone will buy the whole lot for next to nothing or they will go on the bonfire.

Cheers for the link John,
I'll be buying a set for sure, I'm still slowly (very) working through my NGG 16 into 5" gauge from these drawings.
There a great thing just to archive as I can guarantee a collection of drawings this vast will not be available again at such a price.
If only the UK could do this for there drawings instead of gouging people's eyes out!

I've got the NGG16 set....really really tempted to part with $100 and buy up the full set, if only for interest sake and having a copy should I find anyone in need of a set, like the WHR who have a NG15 for example

I dunno Roger while it’s true the British model engineer tends to be myopic in their choice of locomotive to build. When you step outside these shores there is far more eclectic mix either being built or running. The loss of this resource will be a great pity especially as the South African Government has little or no interest in their steam heritage. So getting the drawings out of Transnet will be most likely impossible. I have a number of Johns CD’s and have bought this lot as well for $100 its like giving them away anyway. Jim

Jim Let's hope they're saved, I feel sure that someone will step in and strike a deal and rescue what's left after the sales dry up. I have no idea what these locomotives are like, but it would be tragic to lose information like this that can't be replace.

it looks like they have a unique style. I guess they would make a powerful model in the same way our narrow gauge ones do.

Just while we're on the subject of the SAR, I have a Polly 2 that is to be finished based on the SAR general "look"........Does anyone know where I can get a couple of cabside dual-language No. plates from ?........... like this >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I don't know if that's what you intended to say Alan but whilst the South African "standard" gauge was, indeed, 3'6" the "narrow" gauge lines where the NG15's (and NGG16 Garratts) operated were 60cm the same as the Welsh Highland Rly. As regards your SAR numberplates you could try 'Steamplates'. A month or two back,IIRC, there was an enquiry, maybe by "Peveril", about nameplates and someone else was highly recommended. Sorry I can't be more help but I'll try to remember who it was. Cheers, Ray. Found it! David Fieldhouse (name.plates@hotmail.co.uk) or www.petersplates.co.uk

Just bought a set for Xmas. It works out at £68.37 for us in the UK, less than the cost of one set of drawings from some ME suppliers!

Hi,
I just bought a set with paypal. Being a luddite I am wondering if I should be able to click somewhere and download them. Or will they be posted?

Steve, they come as a set of 3 DVDs through the post. There must be all the drawings for 80 or so locos I think the individual drawing sets can be downloaded though. John

Had an email yesterday to say the DVDs have been despatched. He's also managed to get all the drawings onto 2 DVDs instead of 3. 2 to 3 weeks delivery.
John
Forgot to add that the last day for ordering is tomorrow - 31st

I had an email yesterday also.
Didn't say anything about two DVDs but did manage to say:
"We thought you'd like to know that the status of your order has been changed from New Order to Ready To Ship."
and then:
"Shipping Method: No available shipping methods"
which I found slightly disturbing since he has my UK address which he quoted.
Just have to wait and see what the postman brings forth.
