I have a 3.5in gauge Black Five 'Doris' steam is getting past the regulator slide valve any ideas on how to cure this?. Also when removing the dome cover some of the brass screws sheared off. Any suggesstions how to get a steam tight joint.

I'm not sure how many screws in total there are and what sizes they are on Doris. I would suggest that you need to drill out and retap the fixing holes to enable the dome to be refitted. Unless there are a large number and only one or two have broken off you really need all of them. Brass screws are not the thing really for this application. They should be phosphor bronze or stainless. The steam tightness is acheived by using a gasket of somesort, I would use proper jointing material for this aplication together with sufficient screws to hold the cover down firmly i.e. all of them.

At least if they are brass screws they should be relatively easy to drill out,but beware of wandering drills Stainless steel bolts should be as good as anything, maybe a smear of "copaslip" grease on the threads will prevent any future seizure.
