Fantasic work on the 3D parts Adam. Also you work with the injectors has spured me on to digging out the vertical boiler i built as a test piece, and rig it up with a injector tester.

Thanks, keeping me busy but just so little time at the moment to do any of it! Wish I had more time on the injectors too but not looking likely at the moment, I'll get there one day!

I thought I had updated this at the weekend but clearly not! I managed to get some time on the gearboxes over the weekend and hopefully make good headway with them again tomorrow before heading to The Great Cockrow 50th Gala on Saturday. The collection of parts, most machining is done other than the spigot/bore that aligns the body to the bevel housing and takes the main spindle. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr I did have a slight C**k up late Saturday with a 12BA tap which resulted in this.... Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr For those who have never used Alum Powder you can see the steam of bubbles rising showing the broken tap dissolving. Last time I did this I didn't get the solution right and spent hours watching it do nothing, this time I think I got it too strong as the tap was gone in about 20 minutes! Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr After all of that it was over to the 4 jaw (I hate setting this opp up, its a nightmare!) and the spigot was turned to a close push fit size and then drilled and reamed with the bronze bush mounted in place in the far end to ensure it was all reamed together. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr After that it was time to take the Pup up onto Ashdown Forest for a walk once the weather had called down. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr I've also had her at work all week with me as the wife to be is on holiday, she was helping - honest! Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr I also had a customer email me last week saying he was down my way this week could he come from a visit so a quick pop round the workshop last night for a much needed tidy up and a selection of castings laid out he was interested in and we are good to go this evening! Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr Back to work I guess! I started a new job back in April and they have a small machine shop with a Bridgeport and Colchester both in need of some commissioning as since they were acquired no one has really used them or known how. The Bridgeport is all up and running and I'm off to do a job on that modifying some parts, the lathe needs chuck looking at as it has a horrible run out. I've been given almost free-range to tidy, sort and equip the workshop so it is usable for more in house manufacturing (By me!) and at the same time allowed to do my own things around work time which is great for me. Got Dad's 2 1/2" Schools chassis to bring in next week to skim the horns before the new axleboxes are made, I may open a new thread on his rebuild, it was very badly made in the first place I have wanted to cry many times whilst we have been stripping it down. Cheers, Adam

I agree. It works.
See my recent post in my build diary on 5" gauge Hunslet.
I shall never be without Alum powder from now on!

Regards Malcolm Malcolm, It was reading your post that made me realise I probably didn't have enough. This time I used a lot and felt I probably could have used more but it worked straight away so I was happy. I have some more on order because sadly these things happen with 12ba taps in regular use! Hi Adam I got my Alum (Aluminium Potassium Sulphate) from: www.ebay.co.uk/str/kitchen-chemistry/Good service. Usual disclaimer. For anybody else that is interested I think/guess approx 1 gramme of Alum to 1 ml. of water is about right. Keep the saturated solution just below boiling. This speeds up the reaction. Cheers Malcolm

The last 12 months have been super busy and keeping on top of orders (or trying too) has not been easy and also trying to fit in my side of the hobby too has almost been non existent. Sadly sometimes things have to give and with regret today I decided to drop out of this years Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition. Had 3 great years exhibiting there but decided this year it was too much to ask with not enough time to prepare fully whilst trying to fulfil current orders. I only post this here to let my loyal friends from this forum who take the time to visit me at the show and have a good catch up that I won't be there this time round.
Wedding is coming round quick now and its time to focus on getting things sorted for that and have a break from all the work! Going to visit Echills wood this weekend most likely Sunday after playing with a friends new Duchess on Saturday. Then look forward to Gilling in August - do I take the 5 again though?!

Adam, one can't "like" your post above, it might give the wrong impression. So where are we all going to meet now? Could you, maybe, send a cardboard cutout - a bit like those supermarket coppers - that we could all congregate around? Regards, Steve

Regards, Steve I know what you mean, its a real shame as I love doing the show but this year it's just too much and with all the costs involved I would want to be fully prepared and I don't feel I would be. I need to satisfy my current customers first. I will still head up one day, most likely the Sunday! Adam

Saw a Brit at the club this morning (nice one, Stuart) carrying a variety of your fittings. Manifold, blower valve, ejector (maybe Hewson, not sure) etc. Time to start saving my pennies again, methinks, well impressed. Regards, Steve

Steve,
That's most likely my bits I do have a customer in IOW by the name of Stuart who did have manifold injector valves ejector and duplex valve I think from memory.
Glad you like them!

This is watchmaking! Great stuff. Love the injectors too. I have an interesting one to try and make for the Terriers. Do you think it will work in model form? A1X injector by ed cloutman, on Flickr

Well its been far to long since this thread was updated and my contribution has been lacking somewhat recently as my motivation for anything hobby related had hit rock bottom. With the build up to the wedding and the new job taking up a lot of time progress ground to a halt and since the big day I've been so busy I've not found the drive to get back into the office or workshop but that is changing!! Last weekend I started going through all the various boxes of castings I had lying around and my big useful storage box which had been my initial organiser for sets of castings with many dividers but I felt this was no longer the easy option and luckily on the same day trusty Lidl were selling some small parts storage draws ( I noticed when I snuck in for a couple of pastries) for a sensible price of £8.99. I now have 6 sets which should cover me for a while to say the least. With this I started arranging and labelling drawers to then realise how much stock I had of various items. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr After a few days on the floor with the dog watching TV.... Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr I ended up with this. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr Which then lead onto me tidying the office so I can start using it properly (only take 11 months of being in the house!) Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr The photo on the wall is my wedding gift from my lovely wife, it is a photo of the stars over Fitleroi Barn at the time we got married. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr Finally I made it back into the workshop yesterday and didn't do what I had planned but I did get the controller for the little proxxon CNC I got end of last year made up, one cable to make up and its good to go. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr This will be a fun little test machine for getting the hang of CNC and see if it is something I can benefit from within the business and a possible new business venture for me which ties in with my new job. Hopefully some more regular updates in the future as I have many drawers to fill! First off is sorting my drawings out and getting old orders sorted for some very patient customers oh and if I'm lucky a bit of 9f in there too! Thanks, Adam

We have power! Fuses arrived today and on went the power. Just need to make an adaptor cable that connectors PC to controller and the stepper cables and we can see if it all works. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr I still need to download some software too otherwise I can't test much out.

The wife is away for the night and has taken the dog with her so just me and the cat and she does her own thing in the evenings so really its just been me tonight! Sat in the office with the soldering iron I have managed to make up all the cables I need for the CNC controller and hooked up the stepper motors. Click on the image to watch the video. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr Next step is to download some software for doing CAM and try get my head round the very basics and then the software to run the controller and see what happens. Final job will be to fit the steppers back onto the mill X/Y table and Z axis and see how the whole thing works but for now I'm just interested in controlling the steppers. Progress! Adam

Hi Adam, You’ve got to be pretty happy with that! I used this guys..... www.homanndesigns.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=57_25&zenid=k6qpnp7r9sf5ugripsdpohr8c0 when I converted my rotary table to servo drive, if you scroll down this page he has some, I think nice, covers to go on the end of the servos which allow you to plug & play the leads. Makes for a nice tidy wiring layout. Hope it’s of some use. I see his range of goodies has expanded. Usual disclaimer! Cheers Kerrin
