I don't normally buy magazines, but the current April No.279 edition of Model Engineers' Workshop has my 7 page article outlining the workshop travelling crane, so I bought that as a souvenir. Sad really, but it's nice to see your name in print for some reason.

Have just returned from a Mother's Day roast dinner for Joyce at our local ......It was booked by her "youngest", a daughter called Lucy who is now a fully fledged State Nurse at Telford Hospital.........Also included was her son Lawrence ( Who works at my old place ABRO Donnington ) and his wife and 3 out of 4 grandchildren.....The eldest was unable to attend as she was "on duty" at the big restaurant in nearby Newport ( Shrops. )...His eldest "Boy" is now a 1st year Apprentice at ABRO with a full wallet, ISA's and a Rail Warrant card for MoD travel to Wolverhampton Uni. day release...
Which means that Joyce and I have been together now for just over 10 years !!..........and it seems like only yesterday that we were baby-sitting the eldest in her pram during the evenings...........ah well, time & tide as they say..

Roger I know what you mean, why should you not bask in some glory for 15 minutes, after all you put the time and effort into it. I have had a number articles published in Railway Modeller, BRM etc over the years. I always buy two copies of the magazine, one to read and one that remains untouched as a back up and for the kids and grandkids to remember me by when I am departed. Dave

It's a buzz certainly, and bearing in mind how much good work went into it I think you should be very proud.

As chief cook it was my duty to come up with a special for my Mrs on Mother's Day. A new recipe for a leg of lamb. Fair play, it was delicious. Anchovies, garlic, rosemary, olive oil, lemon juice plus seasoning. Marinated overnight. Yum yum. Pete.

Two trips firing and one trip driving (pic of me) at the Mary Valley Rattler. Saturday arvo I was on the banjo on the way out, the skies went very dark , very dark, we battened down the hatches, as we climbed the Dawn bank a terrific storm clobbered us. One could barely see your way around the cab, but the very close lightening flashes illuminated the way every now and then. As the flashes and claps were getting closer and closer, it felt like the artillery were finding their range on us. I was too busy to take pics, sighting on the left hand curves and firing.
Has any one heard of a steam loco being hit by lightening ?

Another good recipe for roast lamb is rosemary on top of cause, but also a cup of 1/2 gin and half worcestershire sauce. trouble is gin is jolly expensive in the UK, not so here in Mallorca.

Not me but my Staffordshire Bull Terror puppy Dio He found my bag of steam coal beans in the back yard and thought it would be fun to rip the bag open and spread it all in a layer over the yard and decking. He was caught black footed

Finaly found the thread on posting photos today so i could do this. A short while ago I found out that I have a Flickr account by default as I use BT for email, only found out cos the new owners sent me an email asking if I wanted to 'upgrade!?' to their pro version and pay for it. So, first try. I made this offsetable tailstock centre for my compact 5 to be able to make long tapers ( the topslide has a very short travel ) I posted about it on here but without any photo as I thought I had no account and didnt realy want one any way ( I seriously mistrust 'cloud' storage or for anything else for that matter.) I have been ripping out a kitchen and investigating some dry rot (we knew it was there) in my son's recently acquired house.
He said to me today - you really like this work don't you? I have to say I certainly do. Nothing beats seeing things getting done - I just wish my joints were capable of more!
Pete.

I rather take my chances in a thunderstorm than having P38's shooting at me.

Did another session at my son's house. Looks like the wiring will need to be put in order. Yards of cables running behind the kitchen units as part of the ring main. Doesn't look right at all. The consumer unit came out of the ark by the look of it.
Fortunately it is a small property, just 20 feet wide by 14 deep. We will need to take some ceiling down to sort out the dry rot so may as well take it all down and run new elec and plumbing while access is easy.
My van has proved very useful taking all the crap to the tip, but tomorrow it will be doing its proper job as I will be loading it up with my Holmside and coaches ready for running on Saturday.
Pete.

I have Van envy! I only have a little Volvo C30 (my girlfriend has a far more practical V50), I suspect its a decision I may regret if/when the Brit is done!
