Roger, That sounds sad. I last went in the 1990's and it was a mission to get into the car park and show then. I used to go down with a caravan arriving a couple of days before the show opened and use the caravan site entrance to the show which was always much quieter. It was a magical experience (if the weather was dry) and I was hoping to get there, possibly next year, but once again with the caravan. In fact trying to get into the Great Dorset Steam Fair in about 1988/9 and queueing for ages was the trigger to buy a touring caravan in the first place. It subsequently meant I was able to go to the rally in Cardiff at the M.E. society where the caravans are parked inside the track - a great time! Tim Hi Tim, It is sad, but they don't learn I'm afraid. I gave them a real blasting in an email which resulted in two free tickets this year but no change to anything on the ground. Sadly, they're clueless when it comes to getting people in and out of the show. I told them they needed more entrances to the parking, but there still seems to be only one. I told them they needed more pay booths, they only had the same as last year. Frankly, if the same number of visiters chose to come as last year it would have taken two hours to get in, parked and through the ticket queues again. It's no wonder that people have decided that enough's enough and stayed away. This is sure to impact on whether traders bother to go. It was deserted compared to the usual crowds, yet the weather was beautiful. Maybe when it impact on their wallets, they might finally listen and do something about it. I'm not holding my breath.

Have made a little progress on the Tauco - looking better!
Finished painting the motor casing and now starting to re-assemble it.

Don't forget to add a drill chuck - it's looking a bit naked at the moment. Regards, Steve

With the weather looking very good for Monday I am off on my travels to the splendid and very welcoming Sutton Coldfield club.
I am hoping I now have the lubricator sorted out and today I made a new part for the drain cocks and these seem to be working properly too. With these niggles sorted out I am hoping she will run well, she was making steam like crazy last time out.
Will catch up with Juliet 2, aka Paul who bought my Bridget a while back. I found one of the Bridget drawings in my workshop so that will complete the set for Paul.

Hi Guys, I’m currently on holiday at my son’s just north of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This years trip my Dad came with us, his 92 & never been further than Australia, so a 14 hour flight was a new experience for him! We had flights before & after so it was a long day! Last week we took a trip to Nanton to visit the Bomber Command Museum & spent a great couple of hours checking out the aircraft they have, the center piece would have to be the Lancaster Bomber. I can recommend a visit. For a small charge you can climb inside....just pay it ! Boy these big aircraft a small inside! We saw a advert for a commemoration for the 75 th anniversary of the only Alberta pilot to receive the VC, Squadron Leader Ian Willoughby Bazalgette, as part of this last night they fired her up, running all 4 engines! What a wonderful noise, 15 minutes of pleasure! So I thought you guy might like to see some photos.... Hmm??? Victoria Crosses?? The first Lancaster operational flight was the raid on Augsburg by S/Ldr John Nettleton who got a VC. His wingman was my neighbour's nephew and I skied with his sister. F/Office Arthur Garwell went on to bomb despite be ablaze and he ended up in Luft 3- and made several escape attemps.
I started work with Guy Gibson's Signals Officer of RAF 617 of the Dambusters as my line boss. Oddly, I went to serve in RAF 31 Squadron who became the sister squadron to 617. We had three Spits on strength at RAF Hendon together with two RAF Auxiliary Squadrons as 601( the Millionaires) Squadron as the County of London and 604 as the County of Middlesex.
They moved away when they got Vampires to North Weald.
We were basically the RAF Communications Flight obviously serving Air Ministry in London with a fleet of Percival Proctors and Anson 19;s and a couple of 12's as ambukance aircraft. Then we started to ger the delightful DH Devon's which were the miliary version of the Dove. Here it gets intersting. We had also VP-981 which wasthe AOC in C's Coatal Command's private kite. I wentto help in the collision of the HMS Truculent off Sheerness in the Thames . The film is Morning Departure! So VP-975 went to the Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight as the 'hack' for the servicing crews but was later replaced with a Dakota. Apparently '975' is still airworthy but civilan registered.
So in all a bit of noise from 4 merlins is no great thing.
It is worth looking at one of Hendon's Old Girls now in Canada as JM_R SL-721. This was 'Jimmy Robbs' personal aircraft. It's engine fitter was a Nationa Service Conscript Leading airman. Aircraftsman
Actualy John is still alive. He's a bit more 'crook' than me. Nevertheles I have his invitation next year to see him get his 50 year certificate from the Freemasons. I offered to takke him back to United Grand Lodge at the beginning of next month as I am going to a rather big 'jolly' with an invitation to a Chinese banquet on the Monday followed by a formal English Dinner and next day Dim Sum before heading home to Newcastle. I DID get an invite to the RAF Museum again but the best bit is Hendon's Guardroom which was part of the film 'The Dirty Dozen' Somewhere near was a rather a lot of history. There is the Alexandra Palace( The Ally Pally0 which deflected the German Bomber beams. There is the RAF School of Intelligence. Again, I can talk about it but two places were and probably still remain out of bounds. I had a couple of their 'lame ducks' working for me.
I did a lot more research tha is written here. Oh, my old office was still there but part of the Bomber Command office.
Who said National Service was a waste of time.
Cheers
Norm

Managed to get the Tauco motor reassembled with new lubricant and all the old gunge removed. Lit the blue touch paper and the correct bits went round and round without any magic smoke appearing
Now to put the motor back in its cradle and the cradle on the motor mounting plate. There is light at the end of the tunnel...

Hi Tim,
“There is light at the end of the tunnel...”
You want to be careful making rash statements like that! Usually means somebody is bring you MORE work! Keep at it you are almost there.....glad the magic smoke didn’t appear.
Cheers Kerrin

Well that time has come we all dread, moving house. So today I've been sorting things in the workshop/garage and this turned up in forgotten corner. IMG_20190824_165319034 by Mr Swarf, on Flickr IMG_20190824_165228822_HDR by Mr Swarf, on Flickr I can remember it above dads lathe when I think it had a shade but can't seem to find that at the moment. Just put the meter on it & got 25v at the lamp holder, what is the advantage to using this 25v lighting & should I use it in the new workshop? Bulbs are still available according to google. They don't make em like that any more! Paul

Paul, 6 years ago we ended moving from our house to rented, then to another rented and finally to our current place. That was three workshop moves in just under two years. After 4 years in our current place I am still looking for things and still finding stuff I had forgotten I had. My only advice is to label, label and more label! It is amazing how quickly you forget what went in a box especially as you often put small items in almost full boxes. The other thing is that whatever you chuck because you won't ever need it and don't want to transport it will become neccesary within two weeks of arriving.... On the plus side the workshop has to be sorted first after a move otherwise you can't do all those jobs you are inevitably faced with in a new abode. Good luck! Tim

Paul Believe it or not these are sought-after (not by me!) and sometimes go for 80quid or so. Advice is to sell it and buy a new LED one - unless it really reminds you of your dad - in which case why not install it and think of him when you use it?

Joyce and I took NCB No5 ---- a 5" gauge 0-4-0 Yorkshire shunter plus its' 10t coal truck from the Granville Colliery Telford ....to the Reading track on Saturday and were hosted by David and Lilly plus the lads who were running on Club Day....A really H-O-T afternoon ensured good running with a balanced mix of live steam and battery electric in attendance on both the raised and ground level track...
Highlight was No5 pulling 3 passenger trucks wit 9 adults on board and enough power in hand for 1 more truck and 4 more people !!
Sunday was spent with family in Bradfield Southend where such folk as Chris Tarrent calls in at the village shop and Post Office every now and then.....A slap-up Sunday Roast Beef Dinner at the local Queen Vic Pub with house Red followed by Apfel Strudel ( sort of---aple pie and custard really ! ) and then sit out in the rear gardens to watch the big Boeings lazily turn overhead.....There's an electronic beacon just to the East of Reading... BIG SLEEP in the deck chairs---------then the 150 MOTORWAY miles back to Telford...
It's now Monday morning withe the trailer still to unpack and some new Great Bear reading to do.....
Ho-hum, what a hard life we lead !!

Yep. Yesterday was a long drive. 1280km on the clock which is 800 miles. Started at 4am and was home for 8:30 pm. Almost had to leave one son in the UK but managed everything in the end. The lady at customs wanted to do a vehicle search but ended up with just a suitcase and us three through the metal detector. The final list was something like this.. 7 1/4" battery loco chassis. 2 7 1/4" bogies 2 5" electric locos. 3 1/2" Molly, 75% complete Floor mounted pillar drill. Colchester lathe spares and tooling 6 00 gauge locos 2 boxes 00 track 1 box 009 track. 009 rolling stock 1 stationary engine casting set. Jerry can. Golf clubs All those UK foodstuffs hard to find in Italy.
That was probably my last trip back by car if everything gets complicated with Brexit. I unloaded everything at 6am and tonight will need to find hiding places for these goodies before the wife gets home.

My middle son and I made our visit to the Sutton Coldfield club yesterday.
We caught up with Paul and he showed us the very impressive L & B project.
We were made most welcome by the members as always.
Holmside ran very well and my son drove our battery loco too.
A splendid day in all ways, well worth the drive and we look forward to a return, hopefully to see the L & B in steam.
Pete.

Spent nearly an hour applying for our USA via through this allegedly 'official' web site: support@official-esta.com which is another hoodwinking 'Free Enterprise' site conning us into thinking we are using official channels. When about to press the 'pay' button I noticed that the fee was $190.00: not the expected $28.00. Avoid! I found the official site, spent another half an hour - I'd had some practice by then- and paid $28.00!

John I keep expecting that someone like us would be prosecuting- under the Theft Act.
But then who is'like us'?
Happy holiday
Norm
Meantime, I'm having problems with pdf's and a suggesting to use Adobe.
My knowledge of Spanish and Arabic suggests the abode is a mixture of earth and 'organic waste'
Just a thought for today's mudslinging. in intervals with dentists
Be good or careful

Even though it was a link from BA. Enjoy the USA John
