Yes I noticed that on one of the club stands, paint very tarnished on the boiler and no cab. I thought it was someone's restoration project. Big job either way.

.......... I have to say this very quietly so no-one hears but there was a dog of a PR at Doncaster, I could not find the owner but will try. The poor thing was a wreck, she needs help......... Hi David I'm glad you found it; I took a few photos just for you..... (and Ed) Yes, it was a bit of a state and probably displayed as the 'before' of the long process of restoration/rebuilding. It appears that two of the safety valves have been capped, maybe to enable a crude boiler test before purchase? Possibly the cab side and roof have been removed to allow a better view of the backhead, the only part of the boiler where the quality of the construction might be visible when upright. Also the smokebox door seems to be open, also for inspection purposes?
Actually, although it doesn't look very attractive it seems to be all there and adequately put together. If the boiler passes muster then it could be a decent project.
I can't remember which stand it was on but the name on the ticket is G Barber.
Jim S ps glad to hear that your health is holding up (if you're being careful...)

Tried the boiler back on this evening to check the piping up for the water. Quite exciting, might even work soon! D

Hi All Just a little update. Pics very poor so cannot show them but have found a way to get the injector delivery pipe under the running board and then up to the boiler so she will now look a bit more like the real thing, very pleased with himself, he is. Odd things cropping up. Looking at the trailing truck I noticed the springs were uneven, IMG_1496 by David Goyder, on Flickr Took it apart to find that the side frames were castings with a hole for the axle end and that was all. the spring assembly was purely cosmetic. So a slight adjustmnt with a little brass insert has them equal and people will say how well I have the springing balanced. What tosh!! And Simplyloco will like this. Looking at the smokebos he remarked, not a lot of room for the fingers in there. So I told him I got it all ut and one simply has to be patient turning a nut at half a flat at a time. He said the front of the smoke box will come out, come off it I said so he tapped it with a piece of wood and guess what, is was a press fit. Now to get it in again in the correct position. Hope my tippex marks will do. IMG_1518 by David Goyder, on Flickr And, IMG_1519 by David Goyder, on Flickr Finally, have a pipe in the correct place and coming from under the running board, IMG_1520 by David Goyder, on Flickr There was a pair of pipes running across the driving wheels and looking horrible. So the old girl is slowly becoming respectable. Yes the boiler is suspended from the rafters until I get the smoke box fixed down, it is a big boiler!!! Cheers David

Coming along nicely Dave. At least your pony truck has real springs. Mine is just the Clarkson castings so looks pretty crude. I suppose with some smaller bolts and after painting it will look more realistic. Rather like the full-size after a long run, oily and dirty!! Like yours my axles spin directly in holes in the dummy axleboxes and rely on two stabilizing spings on the frames to keep the pony truck on the track. Pony truck sides by ed cloutman, on Flickr

Hi Pete Update. Took pictures, taken shopping for non alcolholic gin and other stuff for 78 birthday thing tomorrow and then BBQ steaks so your pics were swamped by her indoors! Tomorrow may be a revealing day. Will have a pic for the tool for splitting piston rings for whats his name and the name plates for you! BTW Have to go 6 months alcohol free to test heart function, debating whether it is worth it but then all thst stuff under the bench, "for gods sake Goyder fall into line!!" So there you are, trying to be a model engineer is a real challenge and if I was in OZ, they would say die a hero, bevvy in hand!!! Well if I wake tomorrow. more to see! Cheers, an old loco

Some pictures fot those who wish to suffer! First the chassis itself, P1000275 by David Goyder, on Flickr Not a pretty sight really but as no-one sees these pipes I did not go for beauty. They used to run under the ponytruck and were in the way so all now are snug up to the frames. The two on the RHS of the loco are the water pump in and return. On the left is the hand pump line that used to join the injector input in a great big non return valve handing outside the wheels so the hand pump line goes to the right and the injector line will be under the running board out of sight until it comes up for the top feede. All pipes are down a size. Put in the pony truck support bar and nook, renewed the springs and have drilled the missing lubrication holes in the pony truck. Also made a new securing nut for the pony truck as the only way to clean out the ash pan is to take the pony truck off. So a long handled tool with a socket on the end will keep my hands from being burnt. Made a cockup with the splashers. They were red, nevewr done so I9 used some matt black, some mat!! I used to have a little tin of 'dirty black' but coulod not fins it so will have to look for it. In the meantime will have to rub dirt into the shiny black!!!! have aslo cleaned the old girl up a bity, all the rod were covered in a sort of hard yellow wax, god bless the dremmel. And finally for Pete, I took the name plates off to see if I could get a shine, not bad now! P1000276 by David Goyder, on Flickr Also have eight working automatic cyclinder drain cocks, useful exercise. Dare I drill the bottom of the cylinders, tune in for more in the next installment. D

Big step forward today, fitted eight automatic cylinder cocks, hope they work!!! IMG_1533 by David Goyder, on Flickr And to save writing again at 11 pm, went to see some group called Take That along with another 30,000 lunatics, wife says they are quite good! Actually this is sharing the pain, I am taking her to Parsifal and Meistersingers in Bayreuth in July so this is a sop to stop the complaints, if I suffer, then you can suffer too. ha ha ha!!! D

Useful day today for two reasons. First I have a very smart backhead cover and can now progress the attachment of the boiler clothing in ernest, second 'Saintloco' came by to show me how to beat the daylights out of a poor piece of copper and I should mention that I now know what a step drill is and will buy one tomorrow. Once we get a bit more done will get some pictures up, need to make a couple of clothing bits and then off we go! Cheers David
