I'm planning to be at the show on both Friday and Saturday so will be upstairs tomorrow at lunch time. Reg I look forward to seeing you there. Hopefully some of you will have a little something of interest to pass around for us all to enjoy. I for one am very interested in anything that anyone has made, whether it's for a Locomotive or anything else. Simple or complex, it doesn't matter, it's all good. It's not a competition, some of the things I'm going to bring are far from perfect!

Good show and particularly good to put names and faces to you all. Great to meet everyone - especially David (Midland) and trust everyone got - gets home safely , south bound on M1 was terrible with torrential fun and what looked like a horrendous accident on north bound carriageway.

Hi Malcolm Thanks for the photos, a good record of the day. Regrettably a hour is far too short a time to get to speak to everyone but at least faces have been put to a few more names.
Thanks for the chat Gentlemen.

Yes, great occasion I am going to suggest that next year, we all have a name tag of our secret name to identify us. I am ashamed to say that I did not know everyone and should have. And I would like to publicly say that Q was very naughty (as my mother would say) for his gift for my giving him the Stirling book. His generosity & thanks is very much in the spirit of the MECH. Thank you so very much Q. And yes, Chairman Roger has decreed that we all bring something to show next year. He has allowed that my screwing a nut onto a bolt will count so I will practice all year on several BA sizes and bolt lengths. Cheers all PS HOw about a working Princess Royal, that would WOW

Good to renew a few acquaintances made last year and put more faces to names this year. A really good turnout, many thanks for sharing your time with me. I feel quite guilty just living down the road in Sheffield considering how far some of you have travelled.

Midland, david,
Pleasure to meet you finally, just embarrassed that Scottish wine may be a, hopefully, temporary problem - but it is known as the water of life 😀 Everyone else, what a knowledgable bunch, and thanks to this forum for putting us together. The tip to use bicarbonate of sodaTo neutralise bakers fluid is brilliant - didn’t know that and I shall use it. So much impressive stuff, although if roger expects me to take anything to vie with his examples he just has not be joking ! I founded the Bentley engines eventually and have difficulty in believing a human produced them, magnificent. Looking forward to 2020 already

351 miles round trip for us but it was worth every mile. Lovely to meet up with everyone. And look at the bits in the flesh! Joking aside if we continue to meet up every year and the numbers grow and we each bring a piece we could have a tryal assembly of a loco on the table or tables!!! Reading Club has mostly Cheque Book members! Guilty in recent years to speed up having something on the track.
I did one journey back to the car after a visit to College Engineering. One lump is for a tapered Chimney when I have finished there will not be much left. Still dreaming about Alan Crossfields GOLD MEDAL winning Locomotive. His friend Alan Wilson contacted me to see if I had seen a coat of arms in full colour? "Yes in a museum in Torquay just going down the stairs!" A week later I found the photo I had forgotten taking, Email scan to Alan and he sent it on to the result you see on the stand. Alan Wilson is also a superb builder and Leyland is also his local track. 7 1/4" of course. Four at our visit in March to his garden workshop.
David and Lily.

It was nice to meet David and Lily earlier in the day. I was disapointed in the lack of BIG firms attending now( apart from RDG) and really there was no place for anyone who was very old and disabled to sit and rest.
I saw some of the so called catering and also was apalled by the distances to to and from the bus stops- and got a taxi back to the railway station.
It will take a vast improvement to temp me back. It's a shame that such wonderful exhibits are being marred by second hand sstandards in the venue itself.

Just to say what a treat it was to meet you all! To echo Barloworks, living just around the corner in Sheffield made me feel a little guilty at the distances some of you have travelled. Hopefully it wont be a year before we meet up again, maybe us Northerners should travel south for the autumn/winter if there is a MEX somewhere below Watford worth going to (maybe not London!). I did like Rogers suggestion of visiting clubs, maybe in the fullness of time we could have a bit of a round robin of club visiting.
I will have to find something nice for the show and tell for next time!
Hope you are all home safe!
Tim

Many thanks to Malcolm for thinking to take the photos, I get too engrossed in conversation to think of such things.
It was great to see some familiar faces and some new one too. Thanks to all of those who brought along something for us to talk about, a rich an varied collection of interesting subjects. It's not a competition, it's just for the joy of sharing things we've made or think might be of interest. It's easy to find fault in anything if you look hard enough, but that's not what it's all about. More next time please!
Thanks to Jim Scott for bringing me a sample of a surprisingly rigid Eutectic Alloy Soft Solder to experiment with, that's going to be interesting.
All in all it was a really good day out, even though it's five hours each way with a refreshment break. As usual I got distracted, chatting way too much so I didn't get time to look around the trade stands before closing.

Catering? Yes we went self sufficient and researched the best Chinese for later called Wonderful! Yes very nice out of a choice of 20! Lily sat and enjoyed lunch... If ever questioned by catering managers told to only speak Chinese!!!
Now if we each have a small piece which we can make from a drawing published in say January, We all fit them together like a 3D Dominoes! (Not Pizza) Big decision tapered fit, Metric or imperial? 90% thread engagement or 80%? What a choice.
Just off to Club running.
Love to all David and Lily.
