I know many members knew Barry from their visits to Southampton over the years. He passed away at 2 pm yesterday, will be missed. David

One of the nicest, unassuming men one could ever wish to be associated with. Cancer is unfair. Sad indeed. John

Just a reminder folks to get yourselves checked. Screening can't cure everything but it improves survival chances massively.
Pete.

I knew Barry from his time at the Mid Hants. I was shocked to see how young he was, I always looked on him as one of the more mature members of MHR but that was almost 30 years ago. He gave me my first telling off for running in the 4 foot.RIP

I was so sorry to hear of the death of Barry Eden. Barry and I joined the Southamton club at about the same time in the early 1960s and remained friends ever since. I know Barry went on to higher things, with full size and was also, I believe, chairman of the Southamton club. Barry was always a hard worker at the club, and he and I learnt a lot from Bill Perrett. We both used to take turns driving Bill's engine, which was always immaculately turned out. Two others in our group, though a little older, were Keith Gammage and Gerald Dyer. Enclosed is a picture of all of us when the Club visited Benheim Palace back in the mid-1960s. Those were great days, when 5" gauge was the big one - now things have got so much bigger! I will miss Barry very much. Ed Trip to Blenheim Palace S by ed cloutman, on Flickr

The following in from our Chairman,
Dear Members. I now have the details for Barry's funeral which are as follows. The funeral will be at Southampton Crematorium East Chapel on Monday 29th April at 1.15pm. A request of No Black please. After the service there will be a buffet and hopefully a steam train ride at Eastleigh Lakeside Railway. For this, people who would like to attend could you please email me at davesmith50@yahoo.com by this coming weekend so I can let Angela know some idea on numbers. If you are only going to the chapel then Angela tells me it holds 126 people so seating should be adequate. Regards. Dave Smith Chairman
I know a few from further afield might want to attend. Cheesr David
