I am fitting a pony truck to my sweet pea. This is the truck (not mine, knicked off t'internet) My brain keeps telling me there should be braces from just behind the pivot to the bottom of the horns. I like triangles DSC07750-web by Sigma Projects, on Flickr

If its bearing forces are vertical from the axle then that piece from the pivot backwards is just to tow it along in the right ballpark anyway, isn't it? If it rolls nicely there should be minimal torque, but I guess cross bracing wouldn't hurt.
