Hi All,
It's been a while since I have posted on here but was wondering if someone may be able to help.
Its regarding the valve gear on a BR Standard Class 4 2-6-0, I'm wondering how similar it is likely to be to the Standard Class 4 2-6-4T, I know the cylinder stroke is shorter on the mogul and the throw on the crank pin would take care of that but thinking that slightly different return crank dimensions did mean it was the same valve gear on both locos.
Thanks
Rebus

Rebus,
The valve gear on the BR Std class 4 2-6-0 is not the same as the Class 4 2-6-4 Tank. It is however identical in almost all detail to the class 3 2-6-2 Tank and to the Class 3 2-6-0 Tender locomotives. They had the same cylinders and valve gear apart from the way the class 3 tank's valve gear was operated, as this loco had a reach rod from a screw and nut in the cab passing through a tunnel behind the LH tank to operate the gear whereas the Moguls had the screw and nut mounted close to the weighshaft similar to most of the other standards. I have all this valve gear drawn up for my Class 3 Tank project and should be able to help you, if you require it.

Hello Rebus, How lucky you are to be guided by 44767. He is well versed on the BR Standards and best of all he is willing to share his knowledge.
The rare example of outside Stephenson's gear (nothing to do with the current query) is as fascinating to watch in action as any I know.
Don Ashton.
