Hi, has anyone built Ayesha 11 locomotive? Looking for a new project and assured this engine was rebuilt and redrawn in around 2005, I was interested having experienced faults on drawings before. So ordered the drawings and found 8 faults on the boiler plan alone. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi Geoff
I have built a Ayesha II boiler a couple of years ago. I can't remember any thing that stood out as a error. Although I did make some changes to the placement of the clack. The 2 1/2" Assocation did built a prototype engine to check the design. What drawings are you using, or is it the ME article's? Have you contacted any one in the 2 1/2" association? Are you looking to put the boiler together your self?

Hello Will, thanks for reply. Yes intend to build it myself. Drawings are from 2 1/2 association. It shows the superheater going down a slopeing flue tube which then screws into a parallel 1/4-40 thread in regulator. This I don't understand. Geoff.

Geoff i have had a look at the ME construction articles (well the screen shots of the digital articles, they are not the best result ion for text or the drawings, the regulator is on the backhead and passes the steam feed (via the wet header) through a hollow stay (on the back head) above the fire hole door through a stainless tube (steam dyer) over the fire and down though the larger flue. The connection to the cylinder pipe work (hot header) is via the flanged connection. This allows the stainless steam dyer to be assemble and disassembled by unscrewing it from the regulator and pulling it out through the smoke box. I did not build my like this see, (http://modeleng.proboards.com/thread/9538/build-boiler ) I went with the tradition regulator in the dome area and a wet header on the smoke box tube plate, this does make it incredibly fiddly to get at all the pipe work in the smoke box. In hine sight i should have followed the drawings, while the regulator might look a bit bulky on the backhead its been well though out, they is a bit more care needed in putting in the hollow stay above the fire hole door. But it makes for a simpler locomotive. The only other possible issue is the clack bush on the bottom of the barrel, i went for that same postion as Curly did for his Ayesha, at the front on the centre line of the barrel. I hope this is of use to you. Do you have any other questions? Is this your first locomotive your building? Are you a Member of the 2 1/2" gauge Association? Even if you are thinking of joining its worth getting along to one on the many meetings around the country. Just a clip to show what an Ayesha can do, from the Frimley raised track a couple of years ago, she is fully painted now www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dD5kONYjYwWill

Very many thanks for info. I'm going ahead with the back head superheater at the moment, my issue was the slopping 1/2 in flu tube, have put it on CAD and it would be impossible to slide dry tube down and screw into back head part of superheater, so having straight flue. The 2 1/2 association comes to my club at Andover each year, so may join. Geoff.

Hello Will, as you have built Ayesha boiler I have question for you. When making Throat plate does the edge flanges fit outside the firebox outer wrapper? Been reading the building booklet and it's not clear to me. Geoff.

The only thing i changed on the boiler of Ayesha 2 is to change the external threaded boss to an internal threaded boss as per recommendation from the boiler kit maker.
Nice engine to build with true drawings and the explanatory notes well written. last one i bashed out was done in 4 months, but i was given a professional boiler.

Ran very well at Frimley, that's the first 2 1/2" I've seen running, impressive

Hi Geoff
The throat plate flange fits inside the outer wrapper. I think I was talking to you at the Andover steam up. I was there with the Marsh livery Atlantic.

Hello Will, yes I was at the 2 1/2 day at Andover, and decided to have a go at Ayesha 11. The biggest problem I have had with model engineering are the drawings! so I do as much pre planning before I start cutting metal. Maybe see you next year with a result!
