Today at my local ME society, another member remarked to me he had a bit of “rubbish” for me. I was very excited to find out this was a 16mm scale (32mm gauge) model of what is meant to be a Lynton and Barnstaple tank engine. It is fired on methylated spirits, and has a superheater. As you can see, at the moment it doesn’t look much like one. The main problem is the Walschaerts valve gear, which is dodgy on the right hand side, and doesn’t work at all on the left hand side. Here are some more pictures. I believe this engine is either a kit, or based on a kit model which the builder tried to recreate. Does anybody know anything about it?

Well, it’s not exactly rubbish anymore, but there’s a few more problems. When I picked it up I heard a faint sloshing... there’s been water in the boiler for the last year! The rod that moves the valve gear has sheared too.

Hello there,
Now this is the sort of Model Engineering that I both enjoy and, if I may say so, excel in....It's one thing to just slavishly build a new loco to existing plans, pleasant though that may be but to repair and restore back to original is far more fun --- and challenging too !!
That's what spurred me on over 20 plus years at the SVR and currently keeps me occupied in 5" gauge as well ( ie repairs and restoration )....... Joyce and I went on the embryo "New" L&B a few years ago and were impressed with the progress being made and much as I'd like to offer actual hands-on it's too far from Telford......
SO, I'll be following this thread with great interest and would like to offer any help etc. that I can along the way..
Good luck and don't give up at the first hurdle, eh ??
Alan
