Brings back memories. We did some trials using the Cardington barrage balloons. We visited for a meeting to plan the trials, it was blowing a hoolie outside but all the balloons were floating un-affected by the wind. Very eyrie. What I did not realize was that the tail fins of the balloons are inflated by the wind being trapped by a scoop under the balloon so all the fins were collapsed which added to the eeriness.
Mention Cardington to a lot of people and they will tell you its where they had to report to when they were called up for National Service.
When I was there the hanger next door was used by the Fire people to stage fires in order to investigate serious fires that had occurred.

when I saw the link address I thought this was a site about the film '28 days later', thinking perhaps some of the film was shot in the hanger which has been used many times for films... Bond being one. However after looking at the site it's clear it's nothing to do with the film.. in fact I have no idea what it's about, seems to be very diverse in subjects, either that or i'm too stupid to see the wood through the trees.... You must have been there in the mid 90’s Peteseager, funny enough I went there for a meeting about using a mini airship that was being developed there for a trial we were planning. As you say part of the shed was used for doing research into fires etc.

We must have been there just before then, late 80's. When I went there one hanger was full of barrage balloons and the other hanger was used for fire research. It amazed me that the balloons and fire research were allowed in seperate hangers. The place was littered with trailers carrying hydrogen cylinders. The airships came to Cardington a little while after we finished.

Oh dear, that has destroyed my theory about MH370 - I was convinced it would be found inside one of those hangars.
