Thanks Pete, I have bookmarked it and read a bit of it. It is certainly going to help me with all the excellent pics.
I am going to make a start on the frame today.
Cheers,
Tom

Pete, I have now gone thru your complete Rob Roy rebuild thread ... the last video with the other members on brought a tear to my eye ... your dad must be very proud of your accomplishment.
Rex, thanks to Pete's excellent thread, I have all the pics I can use for the moment.
Cheers,
Tom

Thankfully my dad was (and still is) around to see the results. How many half completed projects are there out there because there was nobody around to finish it when the original builder was unable to? Good luck with your build and great to see you are getting stuck in straight away. Procrastination never got a project finished. Pete

Rex, if you ever get the chance, I would be interested in seeing a pic of the whole bottom of your engine. Never been asked for a picture of my bottom before! I'll try to oblige but it may be a few days, it'll need a good wipe first!

Thank You Rex ... no hurry as I haven't even got the frame together yet. I am rushing to get a couple of other projects out the way before I get too serious about Rob Roy. I also need to figure out what castings are essential and which I can do without. I have cylinders and wheels and fire box door and ring and a few other bits as well. I thought I had a line on a fully built, working one, but that turned out to be a fairy tale.
Cheers,
Tom

Part done locos are popping out of the woodwork now. I was offered the frame and drawings for a Torquay Manor engine today, but at around 160lbs and over 5 ft long, I decided to pass. I have enough projects and the castings for that one would put me in the poor house. The Canadian dollar has taken a dive and now it is nearly $2.00 per British Pound so any large purchases are out. We may even postpone our trip over next year if it doesn't come down some.
A tad of work was done on Rob Roy's frames today, but it is way too warm, even in a basement.
Cheers,
Tom

Just waiting for the book "Rob Roy and William" to arrive from England so I can do a bit of light reading. Then, I will make a proper start on it.
Cheers,
Tom

O.K., my book "Rob Roy and William" has arrived and I have been having a read. I will have the frames bolted together tomorrow and I can start the profile and the laying out of holes and parts.
Of course, I could not resist having a wee read on William as well. I have seen no mention of this engine and my searches are coming up empty ... it is a larger engine for sure, but does anyone have one? Were they good performers? The book says they were quite a powerful job.
Unfortunately, with the pound/dollar in bad shape, the castings would be unaffordable at this time unless I can find some in Canada.
Anyway, on with Rob Roy for now.
Cheers,
Tom

Tom,
I saw a William at a recent model engineers exhibition in the UK. Yes it is quite a bit larger than Rob Roy and various articles claim that it is more powerful and easier to drive. There was an excellent build sequence of an engine based on William by a Japanese chap. I will try to locate the link because he made a really nice job of it.

That looks like a nice build thread ... I have book marked it.
However, I better stick with Rob Roy for now I think.
Sadly, due to medical stuff, it will be mid winter before I can get back to it.
Cheers,
Tom

Hello All I am new here and new to live steam and still pretty new at the model engineer thing but I am having fun. I have been bitten by the bug and I am intrigued with the Emma Victoria from ME. Has anyone started her? Have any problems been found up to about section10 or so? I have started to read through the plans and looked at some of the drawings and they look to be very well done. Cheers Tom I just started work on mine, i was wondering if anyone knows where i can get hold of oilite bearings with id:11/16 od:13/16 L:13/16
