Hi all
Im new to the forum after spending a few years away from the model engineering scene. I am now a member of the Haywards Heath model engineering club and just brought a Don Young Marie E. one of the members said Don Young used to do articles on his loco's in a magazin he used to produce?
the question is does anyone have any articles on the Marie E as it seems to be a rareish loco
Im having some issues with the loco at the moment with it not steaming as well as it should and not pulling very well. the valve timing is all over the place and seen a previous post saying there are issues with it.
Does anyone know of any other issues with the design??
many thanks
Marc

Well, you know where I am, I'm usually here because I work from home during the day and try to get other stuff done in the evenings.

Hi Marc and welcome, I have a MarieE and have modified the valve gear following Don's excellent advice which you already have - she now runs superbly. In terms of other issues I added drain cocks to avoid the shower on take-off and am in the process of making a new hinged ashpan so that refitting does not require the services of a dwarf gynaecologist. Adding some weight would be a good move, she produces plenty of power but can't put it down which on my track limits me to one carriage and setting off is still a bit hairy. I have scanned the drawings and some of Don's original construction series so if you would like copies drop me pm with your email address and I'll feed the rest of the article through the scanner.

Hi Andy, that's good to hear that it's a good loco once the modifications have been made .
Mine already has the boiler wrapped in lead and 1/4" thick steel running boards! She heavy!
Also lucky that I have drains on cylinders plus a hinged ashpan.
She's not pretty at the moment but hoping in time to get there with her

Thanks for that comment Andy, and pleased that it runs well. Don Young was a bit embarrassed about it, but we are all still learning.
Cheers,
Don.
