hi everyone, i have a tom senior m1 horizontal milling machine and i require a vertical head attachment, these things are like rocking horse @**! i was wondering if anyone knows of a compatable unit that will go onto this machine, these are marvelous machines and would be even marvelouser if it was verticle (our lass agrees too) anyone of you engineers got any ideas please ;D

No specific ideas, except to keep looking. They are rare, although I have seen them advertised.
One thing I can guarantee is that if you fabricated one to fit, the following week there would be loads advertised!

can you mount the vice verticaly (with an angle plate) then use vertical tooling on the drive spindle, every horizontal mill I've seen this has been possible but I don't know your manchine

hi everyone thanks for the advice, i eventually got a tom senior vert milling head , i had to buy a complete machine though, so i have now got a spare tom senior horizontal miller stuck in the garage, i also splashed out on a harrison L6 lathe coz i sold my myford, dunno if it was a bad move though especially when ive been used to a small lathe, this things like a monster , and pretty noisey when the spindle clutch is disengaged, a very nice machine to say it was made in 1965, anyone know if its possible to quieten this thing down, , i havent been a member long on this site but i have had some very good advice off you, thanks ,,

LA Services, also known as THe Engineers Emporium do a kit for a mill/drill head for horizontal mills.... or at least I've seen castings for such things on their stands at shows.... they might just be the outer casings and you have to do the rest, but a DIY solution is available...
