Here's how I did it: I clicked on your link to get onto the picture in Flickr, then clicked the curved arrow and got this pop-up: I chose the BBCode choice, and also selected an image size. Then I highlighted the whole of the link you can see in the blue, and pasted it into this forum's reply page. That's it. Wilf

Nice pictures of beautiful loco's David....love them.. maybe one day if time allows I'll build something from that era...I found myself pointing out to my wife at the Midland show some lovely singles, saying i might build one pf these one day....would make a lovely display model too. I think she liked the idea... well if she can put up with a Thompson butchery of a Gresley pacific in the front room then i guess anything goes.... Pete

Pete I have to say that 673 is a smashing loco and that was the last time she will ever be in steam. I took that at the L&M celebrations at Raimhill around 1980 and was on my way back to Canada. Little did I know that I would have one (a little smaller)in due course. People complain about inside cylinders but they have never been a problem for me and I love stephensons gear. Have a look at www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmJBMMOsTpQ to see her. Not me driving, another member so I could get a quick flick! Cheers David

The Midland singles were beautiful elegant engines. What was the reason for 673 being taken out of steam David?

If you have to use an iPad on your travels to access the forum and internet in general then don't go for TinyPics. Every time you click on anything you get a pop up. Closing them gives a 50/50 chance of them closing or the link opening. It drives me even more mental than I was before. Reg

Yes, I've noticed this also------------It's only started recently and the quicker you move to the next section then they go away...Even my ABP won't stop them........Bloody adverts !! Which raises a question}---- Would a BBC computer show these as well ?

Oh dear what a plonker I am for asking why 673 was taken out of steam having seen MR 673 at the NRM and taken numerous photos of it. My only excuse is that I must have forgotten my medication this morning. Jim

Then I highlighted the whole of the link you can see in the blue, and pasted it into this forum's reply page. That's it. Wilf This is the way I do it but with a slight twist. The highlighted code is copied to the clipboard by holding down the 'Ctrl' key and then pressing the 'C' key... nothing appears to happen which is not very intuitive, it ought to give some kind of indication, but that's Windows for you. I always start my picture posts using Quick reply for the following reason. I usually post several pictures and the links are copied one by one by holding down the 'Ctrl' key and pressing the 'V' key after putting the cursor where I want them on the post. Once I've added them all like that, hitting the return key a few times to space them out, I click the Reply button which then takes you to the richer editor but also displays the images you've just added as links. Then I add the text of what I want to say.

The Midland singles were beautiful elegant engines. What was the reason for 673 being taken out of steam David? Jim Hi Jim Was wandering around tghe York museum and got talking to one of thr curators just by 673. I asked her, very much in jest, that when they next steamed the engine to let me know and we got into a discussion about the steaming issue. Basically they took the view that this is the only single left, it is delicate, they do not want to risk damage and she posed the question as to why a museum. Is it to preserve or to use the items. They simply have to make decisions and it appears the older engines will stay quiet and the younger, or more famous, one will be allowe3d to steam. i think that is why the 4472 saga has been such a problem, do they run her or let her rest, an expensive question and answer so far!!! The other issue is the boiler cert, I doubt if she could get one. I was lead to believe that in1980 they ran many of the older locos at a much reduced pressure. This will probably start a whole new discussion so I will duck for cover although might show you a couple photos from that time!! Cheers David

hi david, there are quite a few 'Singles' about as replicas and preserved locos. glasgow has Caley 123, LNWR Cornwall is at the NRM plus original and replica Rocket, and the NRM own the GWR Iron Duke replica, didcot have the Firefly replica, Taussauds have GWR The Queen replica, and there are lots of 'Singles' overseas perhaps the most famous being 1855 Fairy Queen in india. cheers, julian

Thanks for that update David. Being a fan of the Midland I'd love to see 673 heading a rake of Clayton clerestory coaches. It won't happen but a nice thought.
By coincidence I've just watched the episode of the Hairy Biker's Restoration Road where they visited the restoration of 4709. Fascinating stuff and an interesting show too.

hi david, that lovely picture of LBSCR Stroudley Single G class Fairlight made my evening! many thanks for posting it! cheers, julian Julian The owner is the chap who is organising another singles day and I am encouraging him. When I saw that engine I wondered what it would do. It flashed around the Thames Ditten track like no-one's business and was very impressive. Just beauty itself. I think a singles day would be fascinating as we would get all sorts of Stirlings, Johnstons and perhapsd even 'Lorna Doone' that won the IMLEC at Southampton some 25 years ago. That was an era when singles were the express passenger engine of choice, top link stuff. Cheers David

Ah yes, Rocket 150, I remember it well! I was there with 5051, spent a week trying to service a four-cylinder engine in a dirty coal yard with no pit and no facilities! Mind you I was a lot younger then........
