Hello, Where can I get drawing of the valve gear? I want to replace the die blocks but don't know the radius for it. Thank you.

I'm pretty sure that the 14XX was based on Neville Evans's Didcot. If so, the centre of the slot in the expansion link is 4.25" radius and the slot is 0.25" wide.

Surely, the radius to the centre line of the slot should be equal to the distance between the centres of the eccentric strap and link assembly!

Thank you, Now i have to find out how to remove the pin for the die block. Either it is glued, or with a thread.or both;-)

Surely, the radius to the centre line of the slot should be equal to the distance between the centres of the eccentric strap and link assembly! It is. On Didcot this is 4.25". John

Surely, the radius to the centre line of the slot should be equal to the distance between the centres of the eccentric strap and link assembly! Not strictly true

to clarify Ed's post, for equality of leads you need to use the formula published by don ashton which requires a very small addition to the eccentric rod length. for the formula you need to work out the correct angle of advance that suits the valve gear. the addition is likely to be something like an extra 10 thou approx. cheers, julian

That's true but I didn't want to complicate things Neville and certainly the Winson 14XX wouldn't have used Don's calculations. John
