A bit of a long shot now, but worth asking. Does anyone on here, have a clear photograph of the full size Castle Class Rear Beam, showing the Mainframe to back face of the Rear Beam area (highlighted area below) available to share? I'm trying to produce a more prototypical Rear Beam than the one drawn by Peter and have no problem finding photos of the outside face, but none of the back/inside face, that show the area I need clearly, as it's always a dark shadowy area.

Well I've now recieved my later style Castle wheel castings from Mark Wood Wheels:- www.markwoodwheels.co.uk/wheels/index.html and the quality is superb. (The centre wheel of the group in the following photos, is the one supplied by Polly Engineering and is a nice casting, but is undersize, has the wrong boss shape and the wrong spoke to boss profile, even for the earlier Castles!) Just to note, I have no connection with Mark Wood Wheels, other than as a VERY satisfied customer.

Very nice castings! Out of curiosity, What is the accuracy of the internal cast diameter of the rim? When I had my wheels cast I made negatives out of Perspex so that I could see the spoke roots for fettling the radii (no CNC available in those days). Actually using Perspex was a big mistake as the casters had problems with the waxes taking too long to cool. They got over it though with a bucket of water and a load of ice cubes from their canteen.
I had the wheels cast in 316J free cutting stainless and the casters gave me a shrinkage factor to make the patterns to a size that when the casting had set and cooled, the inside diameter of the rims were all within 0.003" of scale. I wanted perfect castings and I got them, but I had to pay for that perfection.....over £1000, and that was with a 33.1/3% discount, back in 1998! That may sound daft, but I am sure there are others like me who are prepared to pay for perfection.
Bob.

Hi Bob,
I don't have the full size wheel drawings, only the ones that Peter has done, where as Mark has scaled directly from the works drawings.
Using a rule, Marks wheels are within 1/64" of Peters drawings, bearing in mind that Mark probably worked to 3 or 4 decimal places when scaling, but Peter has rounded up or down to the nearest 1/64" and that's fine enough for me. The Polly wheels however, measure 1/4" undersize to Peters drawings!

Nope, no bent spokes.
Probably looks that way, due to the shadows cast with the use of ambient lighting, rather than flash.
As I had them laid out on a sheet of plywood, in front of some patio doors, the light is coming in this case from the top of the photos, rather than from directly above, as would be the case with flash (I was trying to stand directly above them and at the same time, keep my size 12 feet out of the frame).
