Great work Dazza. I envy your ability to be able to get out and play with the full size.

Great work Dazza. I envy your ability to be able to get out and play with the full size. Thanks Barry, If all goes well I will be spending this weekend in Gympie at the Rattler. Saturday I do my guard run to keep competency and then Sunday I am on the loco with the Gov. Our mob here were bagged for restrictions and closing borders but it may have worked until the dreadful mess with getting the vaccinations done is done. MAM and I get our second AZ jab tomorrow.

Filing buttons are wonderful things aren't they. Lovely hinges. They sure are wonderful, I now keep a stock of silver steel sizes and it takes minutes to make a pair for a job. Then I label and store them away for any possible jobs that may come along that may require that size.

Comrades. I am seeking 12 BA brass hex screws with the smaller head, (14BA) I have tried all my usual haunts but failing. Any one have lead on this ?
Pics of last weekends quad heading at the Potters Orchid Railway. We put all the rolling stock to hand on the hook, still had about 400mm before the locos T boned the guards van.IMG_6396 by Darrell McCulloch, on Flickr IMG_6381 by Darrell McCulloch, on Flickr

M1.4 is pretty close to 12BA so your could source those from Knupfer in Germany if that's acceptable.

The footplate layout and the smokebox discharge show an interesting combination of US and UK practices!

The footplate layout and the smokebox discharge show an interesting combination of US and UK practices! Malcolm Queensland Railways was very progressive, they started with UK stuff in 1865 but imported Baldwins and took on many US practices, such as Westinghouse air brakes and so on. 100 years ago they tried to look after the crews, hot weather and long distances, so shoveling plate 18 -20 inches from the floor with the fire hole slightly lower. Fully rocking grates, air operated ash pan doors (bottom drop), smoke box ash ejectors and so on.

Most interesting as always.
When holding the box together, I notice the use of a clamp system that slides along a brass bar. Could you post a photo of the parts that form that system.
Thanks Keith

Hi Malcolm, Yes that looks to be the gadget. Thanks. They also come in various lengths as well I liked the first pair I got so I chased up the longer ones as well.
