I stormed out of Barclays 2 years ago when it was full of customers. Got £75 out of the machine. Stormed back in. Bunged it at the cashier. And stormed out. HAVING CLOSED THE ACCOUNT.
The Tilehurst branch is NOW CLOSED.

Hello not alone today, but mechanically and painted finished today I am currently rebuilding this incomplete and ready for scrap Emco Compact 5 CNC which I got as a gift. Instead of the ball bearings for the spindle, I have now used tapered roller bearings. Next, the electrical control is installed. With this lathe I would like to make little screws and bolts myself later. Pictures to follow in the Workshop section!
But installing the door jam section which was fiddly and much adjustment followed. Filled the last insulation section and even with half a floor the place warmed up. Now I wish the house did that!!!!
Then fitted the first light. WOW. Just in time for the dark.
Constructed the Christmas tree. Yes found all the boxes stored. And the lights worked first time and twinkled. Us of a certain age!!!!!

On the downside I discovered the parcel I've been waiting for has had three "attempted deliveries" by Parcelforce and gone back to the depot. Except thats utter lies as the family have been in all week and had no text messages, cards through the door or even a knock. So now my parcel goes back to the sender (I hope!) because they have been telling porkies. The depot is 30 miles from my house. I've just found out that a parcel I was waiting for was delivered 2 weeks ago. Apparently the postie threw it over my car port door, the problem being that my car port has a roof. Although the roof is clear I haven't noticed it before because the box is white but today I must have just had the right angle to notice it. Probably a good job it landed on the roof as it was car headlight bulbs so could well have been damaged if it had gone up and then down 8 feet onto a concrete floor. Retrieved with ladders and a grass rake to drag it back to me. Who in their right mind delivers parcels like that.

It seems that new books on Gresley metal are coming out thick and fast these days.. this one is literally ' hot off the press'. It's a pictorial publication with 140+ pages. A quick look suggests that it's nearly an even split between LNER and BR days... some great high-resolution photo's, printed in a large format...no close-ups 'per se' but they are good enough to pick out fine detail. Alan Hi Alan I hadn't noticed that...the words say quote: "2750 Papyrus takes water from Langley troughs just south of Stevenage with a Harrogate to Kings Cross express when new in early 1929". Pete

Hi Peter,
A new engine eh ??--------- I bet the crew were enjoying themselves.......Looking through the L/H arch and following the telegraph poles it appears that they have recently come over a bank and are running on some flat land, just the place for troughs...
Telegraph wires, water troughs, slip coaches (mentioned elsewhere), semaphore signals, jointed track, how the ordinary train journey has changed visually from latter days....

Nice....I think those coaches may be a just tad too modern for 111...:) Yes, quite so.......Entered service Feb 1908.........Rebuilt to a Castle January 1924 ..... This helps a bit, especially the 1903- 1930 section}------- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coaches_of_the_Great_Western_Railway ----------- I think those coaches may have been borrowed just for the occasion, perhaps ??

We had 2 hours in the Workshop today as the domes were looking a bit drab to decorate the Christmas tree with. Yes got away with the ALTERNATIVE DECORATIONS. Us going for a third time on the front cover this year? Plus an article in each month. Yes the whole day on the tree. A Photo to follow in December, it is very nice.
Question at a model meet up over Christmas. "Where do you store all your finished polished and painted red bits?" "Upon the Christmas Tree of course!" Shows a photo of. "And how many different locomotives can you find?" The searching for Beats watching endless repeats on TV during the holiday.

Pete I've collected a bunch of books on Black 5's, my current project, but get a bit frustrated when they just have pictures like the one on the front of that book. Great photo, classic front three-quarter view, but a plain in the neck when it comes to picking out detail! Give me a good straight-from-the-works-and-still-in-grey "for the records" view... I'm lucky that there are enough of my prototype still running that I have been able to take a lot of my own pictures of all sorts of details for building purposes - but books like that one do help with the incentive to get my own built and running!

Hi Neal I have so many books on the class now that some might say 'I'm obsessed'... Each book has it's worth for detail/info...this A4 sized book in landscape has a lot of photo's that I haven't seen befor. Each page is a full picture in high resolution, so pretty good for spotting detail if not actually being able to scale from. Better still it claims to cover every member of the class with captions pointing out various modifications and dates that they were applied to the class in general. One picture is the first I've seen showing the oilpipes going down the left hand side of the boiler, angled down towards the smokebox for the hydrostatic system which was ditched very early on to be replaced by the mechanical lubricators, good for anyone wanting to build Great Northern 'as built'. I agree, having the prototype still around helps for taking closeups, mind you, you hace to be very careful if building to a soecific date. 4472 today if much different to how she was in her 'hey day' pulling expesses along the mainline. Like most things in life, good looks are lost with age... Pete

Tried learning a bit of 3D cad with a free program (that runs in your web browser) called TinkerCad. It's made by the Autocad people I believe, aimed at schools and hobbyists. Takes a little while to get used to but I made this in around two hours from "never used it before" to "Thats not a terrible first attempt": Rough model of Railway lamp

A funny day due to having to replace a big shelf in our summer house... Sorry additional storage area for the workshop. Funny as this was a shelf made using 100 mm Jabfloor insulation spare at the time. Wonderful plans of converting it into a boat and recreating a scene from 3 men in a boat. (You know the one, where they abandon the boat by the SWAN INN Pangborne.) Before you ask, all within walking distance of the Workshop.
Stuff re housed in various places. Stuff missing found! Insulation extracted with the help of Lily. I was balanced on my first Raglan Lathe now nicely painted sat to one side in said Summer house. They are Blue.
A sunny patch saw us by the new Patio Doors moving the glass round to match the position of the Kite Marks all at the top. Next door were out so bashed the rest of the beading in.
Cut up the messy stuff Jabfloor and stuff it in between the floor joists. This place is seriously hotter than the house.
Round off the day filing down the rear of some more spokes on an odd wheel. A wonderful activity that can end at any time a meal is mentioned. They do look worth it in the end.
Resting beside the strangest decorations on a Christmas Tree ever. Rushed it into pictures for our Club Magazine. Deadlines!!
David and Lily.

I finally plucked up courage and put the house up for sale. It was fun with the photographer trying to keep anything hobby related out of the pictures. The portable track is hidden and no pictures of the workshop. First viewings tomorrow..... Moving the workshop is going to be fun!
