What I did to-day was to look back through a couple of photo albums ( remember those ??) and found this about a cheap day-out to York Museum in 1977 --------------------
and here's another to the Rocket 150 in 1980----------

delaplume I just wonder how much tickets like this would cost today as well as the program to the Rocket 150. Good to have a album to remember the visits

Hopefully there will be a Rocket 200 event in a few years, then, if we are all spared, we'll know!

Not so productive today started by setting up and testing a small metal cutting bandsaw then spent some time making 4 special pegs for the marquee, took the air cooler from the house and installed that in the workshop. Don't worry I did buy the wife a new one for the house. A quick clean up of the workshop of the tools I had been using, I might go and do a little on the coupling rods on the Rob Roy.

Guy Not a vertical just a very small one as I find that it can take ages to cut through a 2 1/2" ali bar. It is THIS one just ideal for the stuff I want to cut and does not take up much room. I cut through the ali bar in less than a minute for steel you need to slow it down and even then it surprised me how quick it took. If I had done it by hand I would have been huffing and puffing by the end of the cut as well as take a lot longer so first impressions are good. Like most things time will tell it can also be used free hand but I imagine it will be a little messing about removing and replacing every time as I found it awkward fitting it to the stand.

It turns out the donkey saw I bought the other day (from a museum in Bristol) is a one off that was featured in a 1952 edition of model engineer magazine. Obviously I had to go out and find a copy! It's a lovely little machine, beautifully made and excellently balanced so you barely notice it gnawing its way through stock as you work elsewhere

The little hand held Aldi saw that i converted into a bench vertical band saw has been more useful that i could have imagined once i put on a quality blade. Well worth the effort. See August 17th 2021 “what i have done today”.

johnd nice conversion but for the moment will use it as supplied as most of the work I will want it for is cutting stock to length.

The penny just dropped, it was Guy that asked about cheap small bandsaws, just put it down to old age…….

Back on the lifting and transport trolley bits today. All the ends are filed and metal cleaned. Will be getting the flapwheel out to get a good key for the paint. Brake calliper blue to match the wheels and trolley jack. Trolley jack to be demountable for other uses on car related bits.
We got another photo in Model Engineer and some nice comments about the cars featured from Geoff. Page 113. No money for, but nice to see.

Today I have been spending some time trying to source spherical bearings for the eccentric rods... Don suggests Rose RBJ201L... yeah right... £103 each. Needless to say, I am now looking for alternatives... I have a couple of bearing traders looking for me... wish me luck.

Pete Rose have always been expensive and you should be able to get an equivalent. Don would have used a standard size not something special. I presume it is imperial. But you could consider using a similar size metric one, which will be easier and cheaper to get. Dave

Dave Thanks Dave I had earlier today written a long post of what my options were while also asking opinions on changing the return crank pin size. I did all that with drawings and dimensions before discovering that you can still buy the bearing recommended and thus ditched the thread I was creating to the bin. I hadn't at this point discovered just how much they actually cost? The required size is 1/4 ID, 9/16 OD and 3/16 wide. The nearest metric to this would mean I would have to reduce the pin size from 6.3 to 4.76mm....that seems a little too much to me. I am now waiting for the bearing trader to get back to me with what he can find, fingers crossed his search is more fruitful than mine. Cheers Pete

I steamed up the Holmside on the bench today to check things are still working. The last run was back in October. Everything went well so I will take it to the 7.25" mini-rally at Hereford on Friday.
Only downside is me. In spite of all the effort I put in to stretching, mobility and fitness generally, I'm finding it harder and harder to enjoy moving these big heavy lumps around. How long will I be able to sit on the riding truck before my back complains?
I'll see how I feel after Friday. It was only a few years ago that I couldn't wait to get out on visits to other clubs.
Pete.

Well things did not go right yesterday when machining some of the excess metal off of one of the coupling rods and completely stuffed it up so had to order some more steel to remake it (totally my fault not paying attention). So today started on some little bits and pieces for the rob Roy just to keep me busy then decided to get the water butts topped up with the hose pipe and water the veg patch and greenhouse no longer had I finished and it started to rain, bugger I could have spent that time in the workshop if I had known that was going to happen. Still did not manage to get back into the workshop as a friend who we have been dog sitting (Only during the day) for for the last four weeks arrived to collect his dog. Well he arrived bearing a gift of a huge box of strawberries well there were that many my wife and we went into strawberry over load(they did taste nice) and started to make some jam as well as making family and neighbors very happy. Still have a bowl full for round two of jam making tomorrow think I will hid in the workshop while the wife makes that lot

Hi Dave Thanks for the link, that looks to be a great range for miniature bearings. I've only taken a brief look but can't see any spherical bearings listed, I'll look closer later this afternoon once back home. Thursday's are club day for me, I find a few hours with like minded souls to be very good for me. Kind regards Pete

I don't believe it!!! This company, SMB, is about a quarter of a mile away from me!! Actually they are either a new company or have just moved here, because they are on a new site that has new buildings going up.
