Well, i wish to announce that the inaugural meeting of the exeter society of model and experimental engineers will be held on friday 10th june at 7 pm, the meeting place is, the sidwella room at the st sidwells community centre, sidwell street, exeter, EX4 6NN,
We welcome engineers of all sorts, and all gauges, boats, planes, locos, traction engines, horologists, if you make something your welcome.even if you dont make anything and just have an interest.
This will be a totally informal meeting just to gauge interest in this venture, there will be tea coffee and biscuits up for grabs so get there early or all the chocolate ones will have gone.
So pop in and have a chat, we wont be looking to sign up anyone its still early days, but the more people respond the quicker we can get this thing of the ground.

Hi Goerge I do the Southern Federation newsletter and your news is real news. Do tell me how you are getting on so I can do a report on your new society. A litle publicity might help the membership to grow and the Southern Fed can help you get established. well done. Cheers David

Perhaps you can contact your local newspaper to see if they're interested in writing a small piece about it?

Gentlemen. Due to a mix up of an announcement in the local paper of this meeting taking place,we have had to postpone this meeting till a week later, the time and venue remain the same but the date is now the 17th. Our apologies to anyone who has made arrangements to travel but the announcement didn't appear when we asked and it seemed a little silly to try and start a local club if the locals weren't aware of it. On a more positive note we had a stand at a local classic car show,we had 2 locos on the Stand and two traction engines giving rides.a lot of interest was shown and we gained 3 new members.

Well we had our second day running a stand at a local event, this time on the den in tiegnmouth, a lot of interest in what we were planning and when some had to leave we had raised £112 ,and the two traction engines were still running, a good day, it makes me wonder how much we would have taken if we had a portable track for the locos, That brings me to my next question, does anyone have or know of where we can get plans to build a portable track out if stock steel?
The other thing is we had an article in the local press telling people about our plans, they also put in the time ,date and venue for our first open evening, it at.
7 pm, friday the 17th june,
the sidwell centre, sidwell street , exeter, its to be held in the sidwella room.
Regards
George

Last night we had our first general meeting; we had 18 people turn up. We explained our aims and hopes for the club and most signed up and paid their membership there and then, a few took away the application forms with them.
Thank you to Bazyle and Chris who contacted us through this forum, I am sure they will both be valuable members of this club. We also had some good news in the form of a donated portable track, luckily it is of a fairly straightforward construction so adding to it should be fairly simple.
Also since our two outings with the traction engines we have had quite a few requests to attend fetes and fairs etc, so with the portable track in operation funds should start rising. Both the locos we have are a little big to use on this track though we could at a pinch so the next step is to get a 5 inch gauge tank engine, something along the lines of a speedy, simplex sweet pea that sort of size.
The next meeting will be held at the same place. I will put the date up when we find out. We plan to meet once a month and all members will be kept up to date via e mail.
I have become the unofficial archivist of this venture and have taken photos of all the events so far. We know this is going to be a long haul and we would like to thank everyone who has supported us and offered advice.
Updates will be posted as and when anything happens.
Regards
George

Meeting was held last night,we signed 3 new members and we were given the use of a boiler test kit,we are all really pleased with the rapid progress of this,we would have been happy to be in this position after a year but to get there this fast has astounded us.we are going to look at a few patches of land in view of placing a permanent track there but we know this will take time, at the moment the portable track we were loaned is going through refurbishment and extra panels are being made.
We do realize that some people may not be able to attend our meetings and as suggested by bazyle i am putting up dates that we are meeting elsewhere.
We shall be at the tiegnmouth carnival on the 23rd july, this is to be held on the den, we arent sure if the portable track will be completed by then but the traction engines will be running.
On the 14th august we shall be at the dawlish carnival, the portable track should be completed by then.
And we are organizing a one day steam fair on the den in tiegnmouth on the 28th of august.we would welcome visiting exhibitors to come along and show their work. if you would like to do this contact me and you will be given all the details.
Again i say thank you to everyone who has offered help and encouragement to us. Please nip along and say hello.

A quick update on what happened last Friday, Doug gave a talk on genealogy some of what he told us was a bit disturbing, its amazing who has records of your life. We signed 2 new members and Ashley informed everyone that we have been provisionally offered a site. its in st Katherines priory in exeter. it in the middle of an estate and is very peaceful and tranquil, it already houses a model railway club and is a very lively community centre. There are some provisos to us having a ground level track but im sure we can work through them, next step is to survey the site .plan the track and submit our proposal to the committee there, but they do seem very positive about our aims, will keep you posted as and when anything happens.
