Here are some photos my brother sent me of his progress on this project recently. You may correctly deduce he is a better engine builder than me! Will try and get more as he moves it along. Pete.

Hi Peter,
These are useful photos to show just why Churchward fitted that BIG boiler support plate........As you can see the assembled cylinder / saddle unit is bolted onto the mainframe at the rear--- and bolted onto the frame extention plates at the front.........This method allows for the cylinders to be removed from a service loco without having to remove the boiler, which then rests on that support plate......
The 49xx Halls had the same set-up, whereas the "Modified halls" had a one-piece mainframe with bolt-on cylinders --- much like we do in the smaller gauges...
The Stanier Moguls ( Princess Marina in 3.5" gauge ) have their roots in these locos........I have a 5" gauge GWR one and it's almost like driving a shorter version of the 4-6-0 Manor...
Some lovely work there by "Big" Brother ??
Can you ask him if those piston valves are of the "Semi-plug" type as per full size ??--------maybe some close-up photos if possible-------I used to make and final assembly those at the SVR on contract work.........
