I need to make my cladding/cleading but don't have a roller. How do you make nice looking cosmetic cladding without such a thing? I assume mild steel or brass would be my best bet?
Thanks,
Jon

Jon,
I'd definitely try and borrow a set of rollers to do this. It's really the only way to get a really good result.
An alternative is to use something round (a piece of round steel, or a rolling pin) resting the metal to be rolled on something with just a little give, like a towel laid on something hard and flat. Rolling the bar or rolling pin back and forth gently can start to form the curve.
But bending rolls would be better.

I have a set of rolls for sale, 10" I think? Need a bit of a clean up.

I assume mild steel or brass would be my best bet? Thanks, Jon I would advise brass. Years ago when I was new to building locomotives and was short of cash i clad my B1 boiler with steel. Unfortunately, when I steamed it, the long copper boiler expanded in length with the heat, but the steel cladding didn't. An unsightly gap would appear at the smoke box end and it looked terrible until I rebuilt it with brass.

Hi Nobby
Brass is fine, I've just finished my Brit tender and it's mostly brass. If I was given the choice it would use nickel silver, it's a bit more expensive but stays cleaner than brass when you work it, it solders better if you have anything to solder to it and it takes paint better than brass. I seem to remember 92220 quoting a source that was quite reasonable.
