Hi Folks, I would like to gas fire my 5" Victorian Railways J Class. I have built the burner based on a Canadian design but getting the right control equipment is proving problematic. Does anyone here have experience in gas firing model trains. I expect to use propane as the fuel. Cheers, Arch

Hi Arch.
I have no experience in this but if you don't get any advice from someone who has the experience, I would suggest you call in at a caravan seller/builder. They do a lot of gas fitting and, I am sure, could advise you. Alternatively, try an industrial supplier who supplies welding/brazing equipment. What you want to do...burner remote from controls... is probably within their experience too. Hope that helps.
Bob.

But you might come unstuck with the more officious types if they ask to see your "LPG Gas Competence" certificate

Lots of gas firing in USA. Burners for sale - Locoparts (is that the company?). In Aust, there's a code or guide coming or might be out already (check AALS website) for installation requirements.

The J's were oil fired so this would be prototypical and probably less trouble. The SAR, neighbour to the VR, used coal/oil firing. A coal fire in the grate to provide the ignition with oil to provide the real oumph. Ian
