Thank you - I rather reached the same conclusion as I reassembled - the sliding base sections moved smoothly after a bit of juggling with the plastic slippers (they're a variety of thicknesses, and some had worn unevenly). It's SO much better for being smaller - there's not much room in my workshop. Wilf Hi Wilf, The best things come in small packages......... isn't that what they say ?? It looks like it'll be of great benefit to you........do post some photos when done ..

....Hi Wilf, The best things come in small packages......... isn't that what they say ?? It looks like it'll be of great benefit to you........do post some photos when done .. An earlier post showed the naked hoist - mine's just the same - so here are a couple showing it in use: The first is Jessie's stripped chassis dangling above the bench. You can see that I still have room (just) to swing it round - that's what determined how much I took off the jib. 20210704_132607 by Wilf, on Flickr Then here's the base, just straddling the bench. On the bench top you can see some of the bits cut off - 5" off the jib, 7.5" off each of the two legs, and 40mm off the each inner slider. 20210704_132622 by Wilf, on Flickr Wilf

I have been contemplating a garden-terrain transit system (isn't that a railway? ) to help with carting locos between house and workshop. My locos are only 3 1/2" gauge so lightweight in comparison to many but they're at the 'large' end of that scale and the distance is several hundred feet.
I was thinking of something like this, with a rail or even a pair attached to the 'deck'
Most fold away which is attractive and I think with some modification, could be used to deliver directly to track in addition to the workbench

I think that would work very well. My moving trolley had pram wheels on it, but when they rusted, I changed them for wheelbarrow wheels, and it now moves gracefully across our gravel drive.
I've actually got castors on the other end, but inevitable lift that end when moving my loco(s).
The trolley you show has handles, so that would be more convenient. Just think about how to wheel the loco off the track.

I have a sack barrow with nice big wheels like that. It's the most useful thing for all sorts of shifting jobs. And it fits in the back of the car quite well. I wondered if it could be fitted with rails.
You idea looks a good one - nice and stable.

Hi Darren Perfectly sensible. I use a similar type of 4 wheeled garden cart available here in Australia. Certainly adequate for 3 1/2 inch gauge model. Actually I like to call my standard gauge a 1:16 model whereas for a Queensland engine on the 3' 6" gauge, it would be a 1:12 model. One word of warning ... My garden cart was 10 years old and I overpumped the tyres from my compressor. I tipped it on the side and while lubricating the swivel wheeled mechanism, the tyre blew out the side of the plastic wheel whch lucklily was on the ground. (Happened to 2 wheels within 5 minutes). So the flying bits which would have knocked out an eye were snuffed ... I have replaced the wheels with metal ones, also what they call puncture proof non-pneumatic tyres (sort of a hard foam rubber). Kimball

I started this thread a few years ago. I finally decided that I dont like my little 2 wheel trailer bouncing about with a loco on. So this week Ive been working on my old truck and fitted a 12v winch. Which I should have done years ago!
