Hi Folks.
I've just had an email saying the Midlands Exhibition will be on again, in October.

That's a relief. The pessimist in me thought it might not come back. Ian

I thought the same, Ian. The email came from Avril, so it sounds as if it is well into it's organisation for getting run this year. Fingers crossed that nothing scuppers it!!!

I'll be doing my damnedest to attend. I wonder if there is a best day to attend.

Wonder if they will offer traders a heavy discount to encourage them back - I could be tempted....

I try to go on the first day. Less busy than the weekend and first dibs on any special offers on the stands!

Unless Covid is just a memory, I won't be going unfortunately. I am the support for a relative with severe underlying health conditions, for whom Covid could be fatal. This means I really can't risk going anywhere enclosed with large numbers of people. Even the supermarket shop is done as infrequently as possible, and at times when its likely to be very quiet.

This means I really can't risk going anywhere enclosed with large numbers of people. Even the supermarket shop is done as infrequently as possible, and at times when its likely to be very quiet. Somehow, I doubt you will be going to any future exhibitions then. Unless they come up with a 100% protective vaccine, I'm afraid Covid is likely to be with us for ever...like the common cold. I have a major health problem which gives me a compromised immune system, so I am very careful about going out and coming in contact with others. I buy Drager FFP3 facemasks for use in the workshop when handling nasty things, and also for use when I go out for the occasional shopping. As an explanation as to why I use these masks, they are 99% effective and filter sub micron particles. They are also anti covid, which I found when checking out the filtration specs, on the internet, for the workshop:- What is the difference between FFP3 and P3 masks? FFP3 face mask In essence, both FFP3 and P3 offer solid protection from Coronavirus. However, P3 is a high-grade filter attached to a mask - not a fabric face mask. The sophisticated filters are reusable and need to be replaced. Protection class FFFP3: FFP3 respirator masks offer maximum protection from breathing air pollution. The total leakage may amount to a maximum of 5% and they must filter 99% of all particles measuring up to 0.6 μm. This kind of mask also filters poisonous, oncogenic and radioactive particles. Bob.

Much as I'd love to go, I doubt if I will. I can't see much changing between now and then, and at the moment one in fifteen people have Covid. In time the numbers will probably drop to levels where the chances of catching it are more acceptable. Who knows when that will be. At least the severity of the illness seems to be less than with previous variants, but I still don't want it.
For me it's about balancing the pleasure gained from any activity with the associated risk. Unless the risks are significantly lower than they are now, I just don't think I want to go that badly.

Just noticed the Doncaster exhibition is cancelled so Midlands looks likely to be the only exhibition this year.

We all were sat round the tables months ago. Sat opposite to and worked with... Then they go off and are positive via face place for the news! Are all my childhood messing in mud and extracting kittypoo from the sandpit coming in handy? Possibly.
David and Lily.
Meeting in the very middle of the traction Engine field at the Exhibition.

Ian I was chatting with the organiser when I last went up there, and the economics are pretty marginal from what I can gather. I certainly wouldn't commit to booking a large venue, when you don't know if it's going to even go ahead when the time comes.

You are very brave planning to hold a show "inside". We have no ideas yet which variant of Covid we will be circulating then and its possible implications. I wonder how many of the traders will want to fork out the overhead costs with all the risks of both covid and reduced attendees. I will not be going inside to any shows in the foreseeable future: I have lost too many friends and am still watching too many still suffering with the after effects. I'm a wimp which may account for why I have not (yet) caught it. We will be having our own gazabo again this year at the Guildford show. The sides will only go on if it rains, ventilation is key Jo
