I am really not sure if I have the right forum..... ? I suppose it is a start....
I would like to turn tapered ferrules and I simply do not not know how to start !
For example: I would like to make a tapered ferrule from OD 16mm down to 14mm over a length of 70mm. How would I go about this ? Also, if I wanted to do tapers starting from differing ODs is there a formula I can use ? I am talking about using a lathe to turn/form these and silver soldering the joints.
Thickness of the material would be 0.5mm brass. Made from sheet material.
Thanks for any help !

Just a few suggestions; if you described the job where these ferrules will fit, and your skills and machinery, it might encourage a few of us work out what to say. You have thrown a couple of 'oddies' in the mix with a 70mm long ferrule and the use of 0.5mm brass sheet - these don't really help.

Norm Yes - that has left me thorough confused, 0.5mm sheet.....turned....16-14OD, very lost. As Norm says, some more context would help overall. To do the taper turning its a simple case of trigonometry to work out the angle required and then setting the top slide over to said angle. Adam

The way I read it Flynnboy wants to make something akin to a funnel from 0.5mm brass sheet which is 16mm od at the larger end and 14mm at the smaller end with a length of 70mm. If that's the case then there are several YouTube videos on this so probably best to start there. I'm not familiar enough with the trigonometry to describe it myself. Personally I would make a wooden former to shape the brass around then silver solder the joint. Ian
