I think that most here should know that I'm a big fan of 3D printing, I thought that I would share these photos showing parts for my HMS Hood model which has just arrived from NZ. IMHO they are the best that I have seen to date demonstrating what's possible with 3D printing. For those not in the know of RN warship weapons, these are HMS Hood's 4" QF HA/LA MK XVI secondary armament of which she had 7 twin mounts (XVXIX) at the time of her sinking. The photos don't do the product the justice it deserves. Also with today's delivery, was the ready use lockers for said guns, HACS (secondary fire control which you have to see to believe) and the large 44" searchlights. On order and in transit as we speak are all AA weaponry, that's quad MG's, Pom poms and Up rockets, plus a variety of other goodies... Pete

Hi Pete
Is your Hood a static model or will it be radio controlled. I have just been following a guy on You Tube who is building an R C Trumpeter Titanic and its an incredible model. Hope you are well.

Hi Mike This one will be static, purely a glass case job..I have built many working warships over the years but they are always a compromise when it comes to how much small detail can be included. This will be my final model of Hood, hopefully my best. I'm doing ok thanks, feeling much stronger this week, even managed a short walk....its club day thursday, that always cheers me up... Thanks for asking, hope all is well with you too... Pete

Pete They look great, 3D printing is great. I did a similar exercise for a friend of mine last summer as a load for a well wagon in 4mm scale. The first photo shows the basis for the boat model. IMG_0001 (2) by Dave Smith, on Flickr Second Photo shows the justification for how it was eventually mount on the wagon. IMG_0913 by Dave Smith, on Flickr Third Photo shows the boat hull in the slicer programme with all its supports. The model was printed in two halves to allow for alternative superstructures later on. Das Boot Mk5 Chitubox by Dave Smith, on Flickr Fourth photo shows a hull and the complete boat prior to detailing and painting. IMG_2414 by Dave Smith, on Flickr Fifth photo shows the finished boat on its wagon, which made its debut at the Basingstoke show last weekend. LSDK2002 by Dave Smith, on Flickr Dave

Hi Pete
Good to hear that things are slowly improving for you. All is well at Cawthorne Towers thanks, but I still spend a lot of time looking for my missing mojo. Hopefully things will improve as it gets warmer/lighter.
I too have a boat model sitting on the top of the wardrobe intimidating me. In my case its an Italieri Vosper 77ft Motor Torpedo Boat. I have never built a boat model and I would love to have a go at making this one radio controlled.
All the best and look after your self.

hi Mike A fine-looking MTB the Vosper, you should make it, may start a whole new interest. Mind you if you want R/C I'd look at something bigger, Deans Marine does a large selection of working boats, their MTB's are 1/24th so a wee bit bigger. Sorry to hear you've also been struggling with the mojo, as you say things hopefully will improve with the summer weather, looks like the next 4 days are all sun down here in the south. Tomorrow is club day for me. No loco running for me just a good excuse for a chat with like-minded folk. Once I've built my G1 King I'll have to go on Wednesdays too as that's when those guys generally meet, and then there's the Sundays... soon I won't have any time at home to build anything... Pete

By a remarkable coincidence I retrieved this boat from my bike shed yesterday! I't's been sitting in the cold and damp for a couple of years now, and with my other projects finished it was time to resurrect it. I bought the Prusa printer to make the MTB superstructure, but that got sidetracked... It's a 1/20 MTB hull 50" long, fitted with three 30 amp brushless motors running at 13000 rpm at 13 volts from a LIFPo battery. It doesn't half go! It needs better stern glands to prevent water ingress, and the Chinky UJs are amazingly noisy at full chat, so I'm going to try double thickness heat shrink instead. Great fun!!

That's a bit of a beast. It's interesting what you find lurking on the top of the wardrobe that you forgot all about. In my case I was lucky enough to be given the MTB as a gift by a dear friend, complete with three motors and prop shafts/ propellers. I really must get round to making a start.

I'll be interested to follow the MTB build. I used to run the boat section at Cheltenham MES, many years ago, before I had a proper workshop. I was going to make a scale model of H.M.S.Brave Borderer, and at the time I worked for a company that supplied Vospers. I bought the arrangement drawings and hull section drawings from the, but never got around to building it. The loco got in the way. Previously, I had built a 4 feet long model of a RAF Rescue and Target Towing Launch (RTTL). It was powered by a Merco 61 driving forward to a 2:1 gearbox to bring the drive back to the stern. It was timed around the Naviga triangular course, at an average of 26mph. Rather a long time ago!!!! Bob
