Jason, I always access ME Forum on my iPad and always press the “remember me” button. For what it’s worth, I’d like Roger to keep posting generally.

I love the locomotive building threads .... I gained huge value from Julian's thread on his Terrier and many others as well. What I find quite frustrating is the 'off topic' comments that make up probably more than 50% of the threads. The nasty comments are, of course, a total waste of time and space, but I also find the complimentary comments are distracting and, whilst I'm sure the builders appreciate them, they do make the building thread hard to follow. It would be beneficial to have side comments to each of the build thread posts, but I suppose such an arrangement would be impossible to achieve.

That escalated quickly. What happened to the forum over the last 12 months or so?
I haven't been here much because I feel bad that I wasn't making progress on my mogul and seeing other people getting on with it just made me feel worse. But it certainly wasn't because of a few random topics in what is after all called 'General Chat'. I don't find it terribly difficult to skip topics I find I'm not interested in - generally anything that's not a build thread. It quickly becomes apparent who is building things (to whatever standard) and who's just shooting the breeze. And they can shoot as much breeze as they like, it's not costing the rest of us anything! THIS TOPIC was exactly one of them - my earlier comment about expecting this to be about screw threads was both the truth and a bit of a dig at how the thread itself is not engineering related, the very topic of the complaint. And then I just ignored it until I saw today it had got to 5 pages!
I'm stumped as to why any of this is a drama. This is an excellent forum, with a huge amount of excellent information in the build threads. It doesn't suffer from the temporary nature of Faceache where things dropped off the timeline within a day with no room for detailed explanations, etc. It's trivially simple to not read things you don't care about.
I see build threads from people who might be relatively new (I count myself among them because even though I started my first water tanks 20 years ago I've built very little) and I don't recall disparaging comments or anything other than encouragement. I see build threads from others who are doing amazing things - the terrier threads, possibly the worlds best speedy, some continental locos, etc.
I believe 'atta boy' comments are reasonable and easily skipped by readers. As has been pointed out it's a real pain to post pictures to this place so anyone willing to take the time to take and post pictures and describe what they're doing for the rest of us to learn from deserves a few appreciative comments IMO whether for encouragement or just to know their effort is appreciated. That's not a hill I'd die on and I think I recall a build thread where the author said he didn't want that feedback so fair enough, but I like to know people are reading my thread and either like what I've done or have some advice.
If you can find a better forum, let the rest of us know so we can take a look too because it must be pretty damned good. Chaski has some exceptional engineering going on but I bet it has just as much off-topic as here.

The Chaski Forum is informative and well worth dipping into to see what predominately our USA cousins are up to. But I don't look at it at more than perhaps once a month. I have posted but very rarely. It doesn't have anything like the number of posts that this forum has, though I only ever look at the main section on miniature locos.
Once again, and as David comments upon, I am firmly of the opinion that the pic uploading facility is a big problem on here for a number of years. I would happily pay a subscription to assist this being a facility again.
Cheers, Julian
