Hi all. Been interested in the A1 steam trust's "Highlander" to build a LNER V4, so i'd like to look into building a 7.25in Model.
I'm from New Zealand and I'm not familiar with U.K. archives, so I was wondering where i might get my hands on some drawings. I'm aware LBSC did drawings of "Bantam Cock" for the 3.5" gauge, but i have a hunch that scaling down will be more accurate than scaling up. Any and all help would be appreciated. Cheers, Isaac.

Have you talked to the trust as i seem to remember that they purchased over 300 of the original drawings which they then scanned. Might be worth an email.

Greetings Isaac, some time ago I built an 71/4 Bantam Cock, basically a doubled up LBSC design, and it is still running well at the Edinburgh Soc of ME, and might even be seen in one of their videos.
I understand that the next project for the group producing "Prince of Wales" the LNER P2 is to be a V4, might be worth asking them.
Regards Brian B

Go to the internet and enter www.railwaymuseum.org.uk/research-and-archive/further-resources/catalogues#drawing-lists Which brings up an alaphabetical list of catalogues and select A-E and you will find a link to Drawings Lists in the top right hand corner. There you will find a downloadable list of all the Domcaster locomotive drawings amongst others. It is 878 pages long but each drawing listed has a list of each locomotive class it applies to. A daunting task to go through and find every drawing. The drawing numbers are in alphabetical sections all related to specific areas of the locomotive so it is posible to go to the sections and pick out the drwings you will need on that basis. e.g sections P and Q are General Arrangemsnts, K is valve and reversing gear and so on. I would suggest you start with the GAs and as you draw up your model you will find out which other drawings you really need to help with your task. You probably need about 10% of the 300 listed for the V4 to get everything you need for your model since you can pick out much of the detail from the GAs. Posters above have suggested you go to the A1 Trust, but it would surprise me if they will oblige. All the drawings are copyright of the NRM and those who have bought them are unable to pass them on, and the museum does actively pursue copyright infringements. If you go down the route of using LBSCs drawings remember he only drew it with two cylinders instead of three and the basic dimensions are often far from scale. Hope the above helps. I wish you luck and success. Eddie
