G'day experts, especially Tel.
Please advise me the wheel profile dimensions for G1 including the back to back dimension and tolerances. Please confirm the guage is 45mm. I plan to build a small loco as a warm up to something bigger.
It will be a variation on LBSC's Ajax but modeling the loco part of the Coffee Pot steam motor coach operated by the Pichi Richi Railway.
Regards, Ian

Oh forgot to say that G1 is 45mm gauge which is very popular in the USA and called G gauge ( garden railway) although the scale is slightly different - if you are into scale modelling. The distance between wheel backs on DOT is 1.563" whatever that works out to in foreign . LBSC's drawings ( that I have seen) don't seem to specify tolerances , but refer to a "bare" fit or a "good" fit and I have found that it is wise to draw assemblies and work out what clearances and fits are required before building them.

G'day Tel & Abby. Tel thanks for the guage 1 details, very complete. Abby, thanks for the advice, I shall do a few mock-ups with cardboard as I go along.
The boiler is going to be a challenge as it is only 40mm diameter but I think I have a solution in providing a form of modified Smithies. There are no side tanks so I can't use a plane pot/Wheldon boiler. I want to run on alcohol (don't we all!) so some form of vapourising burner will be required. I have seen an a\effective design on a boat at my club (SASME).
Thanks all, that's what this group is about.
Regards, Ian

G'day Shawki, Looks a great model, the prototype is even better, I'll see if I can attach a photo. The Coffee Pot was one of a pair purchased by the SAR. Its sister went to Beachport in south east SA. I can't find out what happened to it but surmise that the loco section may have been used a a jetty shunter at Beachport. Again I believe it may have been pushed over the end of the jetty. Anyway that will be my prototype which may give an excuse for fitting side tanks making boiler design easier, certainly it would need adhesion blocks, lumps of lead or concrete on the running boards. The prototype is a bit boiler challenged, not too bad uphill but struggles down hill due to the air compressor.
HELP! How do I post a picture?
Regards, Ian.

You put your file on a server somewhere like photobucket. Once you upload, they give you several types of tags. For this site you need one like (img) your_file (/img) but the roundbracket have to be replaced by square brackets. () --> [] Then the file will show here.
