G'day All. I heard tonight of an Australian code for boilers of Gauge 1 size. This NOT the AMBSC code but one which applies to Sub-miniature boilers. Does anybody know of it? More to the point, does anybody know how I can get my hands on a copy?
Provided I keep the pressure under 35psi, diameter under 50mm and capacity under 1 litre the AMBSC code does not apply.
All help and comments appreciate before I start buying copper tube.
Regards, Ian

I would imagine that most G1 boilers would meet those requirements , and unless you want to use a public track or sell your model you can do whatever you want. What would be the actual size of a G1 scale boiler if it were 2" dia , must be getting very near the limit for British types.

Well, 2" is already over 50mm... (not much, only 0.8mm) That's why I said in the other thread that it would be hard to fulfill the requirements. And 2.4 bar isn't much pressure either. We build our boilers from 54mm hard drawn pipe to a pressure of 3 bar, tested at 6 bar. And this isn't hard to do.
A 2" boiler would be a real one of 1625mm diameter. This will be enough for shunters and sideline engines but large mainline ones will have larger boilers. But not much, so maybe with some lagging it would be fine.

Actually it is an extension of the AMBSC code as I understand it. There was quite a bit of talk about in in AME about a year or so ago

G'day all.
A copy of the code for Sub-miniature boilers arrived from AME this morning. Only AUD12.00 including GST and postage. I have read through much of it and found it a very professional and helpful document. I commend it to all. Thanks to Tel and Shawki for pointing me in the right direction.
