Thanks for that John. I've no idea how to cut gears (and I have no intention of learning within the near future, I've already got too much to go at!!) but it looks like you've made a super job of it.
Keep us posted on progress, it's great to see this taking shape.

John excellent job it's a credit to you. If you are taking it apart to paint it I assume you have test run it! If so how dose it run? Still haven't painted mine. Bob

Hi Bob, the loco has been run in a Heath Robinson way and some points arose that needed sorting out. The most surprising was that I made a straight coupler in the gas line to the burner and foung that instead of individual gas flames - one from each hole in the ceramic - I had one large flame which burnt quite yellow. A coil of copper wire inserted in this coupling to cause I suspect turbulence in the gas flow cured the problem and the burner behaved as it did with the elbow coupler. At least yours has been on the track. John

Good lord John, you have been busy and it looks geat!! Pardon my ignorance but what's the 'cubic' structure opposite the gas tank?

Hi Paul, the cubic structure is an exhaust condenser. It's purpose is to catch the steam oil and stop the oil from being sprayed about from the exhaust. With the burner I am using there is no need for the exhaust to draw up the 'fire'. The large pipe is the steam exit, the next one is the connection to the engine exhaust and the third pipe is for emptying the condenser.

I have just about finished the loco so I thought I should post a couple of pictures. There is a bit of tidying up to do such as a brass ring for the top of the chimney. I'm now waiting for a chance to lay out an oval on the patio to see how it runs. Thanks to all of you who helped me both directly and by posting solutions to other folk's problems. John

Nice engine, time to make some wagons to put after it.
How well does the exhaust oil separator works?

Hi Havoc, The exhaust condenser collected a lot of water during the run and as far as I could tell the steam issuing from the exhaust was oil free. I would like to make one or two changes such as a finer control for the gas supply and a proper handle for the reverser and of course couplings for the wagons.
John.
