Hi Everyone!
I picked up my new lathe yesterday, and now it is home I have lots of questions!
It is a lorch model AV (I think) plain turning lathe, of uncertain age! It is in very good condition, and looks Exactly the same as as my little ww watchmakers lathe, only twice as big! yesterdsay was the first time I saw it, (Ebay sale) and now i have it home I'm impressed with the condition and quality. of the bed ways, slides and screws, etc, and there is even a little(not very much) usable tooling with it!
It will tidy up to be a very nice machine, all the real work it needs is some new screws, a few Helicoils, a new swivel pin in the topslide, and a bush or two..
the one think I dont like though, is the colour.. its an awful eemrald green. I thought perhaps while I had it all apart, I would scrape the paint down, and put some undercoat and some enamel on the green parts.
Does anyone have any ideas what the original colour may have been, or what is a good colour to paint a toolroom lathe? I dont want to use a hammertone paint, as i think the surface is too confusing for my eyes, and I dont want anything with too much glare, and it has to be easy to keep clean. that must narrow it down a little.
Another question I have is about the lorch 16mm collet. I dont have one, so have no idea what it is supposed to look like. I am guessing it is just a watchmakers collet made big, but really dont know. maybe someone does.
It is also supposed to have an indexing attachment, all the holes on the plate are intact, it has rows with 204, 180, 132, 64,54, and 24 holes, and should have an indexing pin at the back. I cant find a picture, but again, maybe someone knows.
It doesnt have feedscrew graduations, and the first job will be to make some graduated scales. again, I have no idea what pitch the leadscrews are, so ill have to work out if it's metric or imperial first!
but it was really cheap, and probably better value than a chinese C1 lathe at around twice the price :-)
anyone ever seen one of these? maybe someone can offer some advice.
Love this board, I'm only a new member, but it's fun to search the forum and read the posts.
just wanted to show everyone!
