Thanks, now I see the configuration but I'm still not sure I get it 100%.
So you just hang the ring over the drill, you do not "manupulate" it? (otherwise you would need 3 hands) It just rolls along on the drill so that if it stays in place you know the drill is level in all directions.

Phew, I think I would tremble all over having to hand-hold a 0.5mm drill and use a bow-drill on it. What size of bow do you use with that? Probably less than I'm thinking of.

and I thought .5mm was a big drill.. that one in the photo is .2mm, I have them a lot smaller than that. its a lot less scary than a drill press at 5000 rpm, anyway. a bow is good made out of 1.6mm bronze welding wire, with a slit in each end. you need a bit about 12" long, with a bit of a curve in it. string it with dental floss. this came from an old school watchmaking education, lots of useless skills, but they are interesting to share. *EMMA*
