answer to your questions are, 1) Oil lamp wicks will be useless try Bob's link or Northern fine Scale if you have no luck PM me I have some you can have. 2) The project steam valve should be set to 60psi but on its first hydraulic test it will need to be put up to 120psi. you only need a boiler test certificate if you are running in public shows etc. in somebody's garden your OK 3) The pump should be fine now I wouldn't bother.

Maninshed
Sorry for the delayed reply to your question, I started this "Project" as a part built engine that I got from a fellow engineer on this site. It had the wheels on it when I got it so I haven't had the job of obtaining or machining the wheels yet. I posted a picture earlier of the engine after I bought it. It has been very interesting to build and has given me hours of enjoyment in the workshop trying out new engineering experiences.

ianmac I am sorry for the late replies, I am at present working away from home and only get chance to logon this site at the hotel when I can get the internet to work on my laptop. To answer one or two of your questions I would need to go home and check, but there is a petticoat within the smoke box and the wick tubes I think are 1/4 " dia. I am home this weekend and would be happy to answer the rest of your questions then. Are you making the 'Project' or thinking about it. ace

As far as I can tell the blast pipe is drilled out using a number 50 drill, the blower was of 1/8 copper tube and I crimpped the end over round a small drill not sure now what size but probably a 1mm drill, The loco is in bits at present awaiting a small repair to the boiler so I carn't say what the gap is between the pipes and the chimmey but they are below the petticoat.
Your further on than me then, I have run mine on air once thats when I noticed the leak. So I've stripped it down to repair it later this month.

The blower i made was .5mm Gordon Watson of argyle loco works said 1mm was way to large. I originally had 1mm

ianmac, the drawing called for a 1/2 outside diameter piece of copper tube for the petticoat, the internal measures about 7/16". I used a piece of 5/8" copper tube to form the chimney and machined a piece of brass to form the top. After a closer look at the blower pipe tonight I think it may be less than 1mm.

No problem mate, thats what this site is all about, chaps on here have given me loads of advice and encouragement.
The copper pipe was inserted into a slightly larger copper pipe to prevent it bending and then I heated the pipe and flared it out using a piece of tapered wood until it looked right. I cut it to the correct length and soldered it into the smoke box. could get some close up photos of the smoke box petticoat if you wish.

Finished off the steam whistle valve and pipe work, ran it up on air and it sounds great. Whistle valve connected to the regulator and the pipe and whistle now completed. Easy access to the valve is from the rear of the cabin and the whistle is hidden just behind the splashers. ;D
