I should think the next one is at Bristol, from 19th to 21st August.

Chris, Tim, All,
More precisely it's at Thornbury, a good three inches north as the crow flies of Bristol off the A38/M5. It's been at the leisure centre there the last few times I've been. It's been a really nice little MEX.
On a related theme: someone I was talking to the other day was outlining the prices stall holders were expecting to be charged at the new Donington venue (i.e. The "not the Donington MEX" in October). It occurs to me that one reason I go to these events is to see and touch the bits on offer and make purchases based on this. If the vendor's space is limited by the charging regime or he doesn't turn up you, me and the hobby in general will suffer. There is only so much gold in the old goose and more and more of it ends up at the door.
The next problem I find is the lack of space to stop and chat. Alexandra Palace was packed when I went and I was well pissed off having struggled up to one end to find a big unused space. Had that been spread though the stalls I for one would have seen, heard and enjoyed a lot more.
(I've just found the map scale 3.2 miles to the inch, a really daft scale)

An odd scale indeed - 1:63360?

1: 63360 is one mile to the inch. 3.2 miles to the inch is, well, unusual, to say the least.!!

how old is the map? my maths says that it should be about 1km to 5mm, which make a bit more sense

3.2 to the inch works out at 19800:1
If the map was a metric one this would equate to 20000:1 or 20mm = 1KM
In the early 70s when the UK was going metric there were all sorts of daft convertions on the go and in this case the map was probably produced in metric at 20000:1 but translated into 3.2 miles per inch (actually 3.168) for the poor British public who didn't understand these new fangled units being forced on them by the politicians of the day.
I recall working on a building project at the time where the architect insisted that all the drawing MUST be in metric. Fair enough but I was somewhat surprised to find that all the building bays were drawn and dimensioned as 6.28 metres between columns - or 20 feet !! So much for going metric

how do you work that out? 3.2 miles is 5.15 km 1 inch is 25.4mm divide both by 5.15 equale 1km is 4.93mm, as the 3.2 miles is probably rounded anyway it comes to 1km to 5mm near as dam it.
that building project sound like the hydrostatic trasmission of the clubs petrol hydralic, metric dimention like 19.05mm and UNC bolts.

Nice to see someones awake
I got sort of screwed up on the numbers game but the end result is the same
5mm/km as you rightly determined is 200,000:1 not the 20,000:1 I stated
3.2 miles is 202,752 inches, giving 202,752:1 scale
So if the map was originally drafted in true metric and was then dumbed down for the British public we get the 3.2 miles per inch stated (with a 1.38% error)

There is a house in palm beach, miami, built I think for a woolworths' heir. It is gigantic.
It was design by a french architect in cm and built by the american builder in inches......

Guys,
Just looked at my map again. 3.2 miles to the inch turns out to be 2km to the centimeter. Do the math. D'oh!
It's a Colins (UK) map bought back in 2000. Great detail but at 70mph I found I was flicking pages too fast and got lost easily. Yep! I do have a newer one.
Anyway Thornbury, great MEX and loads of room to chat.

Hi Steammadman The Donnington show was By Chris Death, the same person who also ran the Ally Pally show, and has this year moved it to his Warwickshire exhibition centre. The Pickering Show is being run by the same people who run the Harrogate show as I understand it. Andy

Yes , Greasemonkey you are so right , the pickering show is run by the same guy who ran the HARROGATE show. I am told he is building a new exhibition hall , but this year it will be supplemented by a marquee.

Yep , you could be right,if it's as good as HARROGATE. BY the way the guy running it is LOU REX, who ran Harrogate. He told me the the yorks show ground had increased their rental by so much it would be financial suicide to continue. So he decided to do the whole shoe from a purpose built venue GOOD LUCK LOU!!!!!.

Looking at the Pickering and nearby events lists, it seems that Harrogate will be as usual in early May next year. Are you saying that that will be the last one (by Lou Rex anyway) ?
The Pickering ME ex. is 23rd - 25th Sep (but I can't get there this time 8-(
