Hi folks.....
The thread indicator on my ML7B is numbered 1 to 5, I always thought that they should be 1-4..... I've checked my Leadscrew and it is definitely imperial 8tpi, not 2.5 or 3mm pitch).... Have I got a Metric indicator on my otherwise imperial lathe?....

I have a metric Super7 but that still has a 8 tpi leadscrew which is why if it has a gearbox then it needs a metric conversion kit for metric threads. The thread indicator on mine is 1-4, looking in the Myford handbook, Myford's accessories list and Ian Bradley's Super7 book there is only one thread indicator.

It looks like a Myford fitting,, painted proper Grey and really well made. My gearbox was fitted at Myford sometime after the lathe was made (it's a 1948 one)... I thought metric Myfords had 2.5mm leadscrews, though if you have a gearbox it has to be 8tpi for the GB readings to make sense.....

Spoke to Malcolm at Myford this PM and he was bemused by it..... possibly off an ml10, but it shouldn't fit.... I've ordered a standard one....

OK, a bit more on this now I've replaced the unit with a standard Myford one...... I's all bronze.... the body casting is bronze, the gear vand the dial too, the shaft issteel and theere's som steel thrus washers too..... It has a 40-tooth gear andthe five main sectors on the dial are subdivided into 8 each.....

PS, usual great service from Myford for mail-order....

How much do they charge for these? My Super 7 didn't come with one and it looks like a useful bit of kit as I'm planning on doing some screwcutting at some stage

The TDI on my Super7 has a 16 tooth drive wheel which means - with an 8-TPI lead screw - it takes 16 full revs of the lead screw - or a traverse of 2" of the saddle - for one full rev of the TDI
The indicator has 4 major marks and a minor mark between each major one
A 10 mark indicator if used on an 8TPI lead screw might be somewhat inconvenient. The only thread multiples this seems to suit are 5, 10, 15, 20 etc
With an 8 mark wheel this suits all even multiples of 2 on any mark and multiples of 4 on all major (or minor) marks
