I've got a Sandvik Varilock chuck that arrived in a batch of stuff I bought, it came with a bunch of collets (anyone know if they are a standard size BTW, or specific to Sandvik?) but the collet that is in the chuck appears to be stuck in there, holding a milling bit of some description (quite a nice one about 20mm IIRC). I tried to screw the bit in a bit further to ping the thing off but it won't budge......I've managed to get the nose off (and on and off again) but it doesn't seem to affect it.....ideas anyone?.... I've tried percussive techniques but the chuck is in such good nick I don't really want to get too medieval on it.....

Chris,
1. Have you tried tapping the back of the thing, Newton's Craddle fashion?
2. Leave it in the fridge/deep freeze for a while.
3. Marinade in parafin/white spirit.
4. Cycle through ideas 1..4

5. Cook gently over a low heat.
6. Serve with bacon & tomatos.
Nah, seriously, if the freezer don't do the trick a little heat might

Hmmm... the domestic authority might not like me leaving it in any of the fridges or freezers.... will try the heat theory first.......

Hi Chris Put the item in a plastic bag and then in the freezer. I find my 'domestic authority' very understanding when I try to contain the 'dirt and grease'!!!
