Because of work commitments I havent done much on my G1 black5 but this week I had time to knock up a boiler - not THE boiler - but something to raise some steam and see if she works. I have redesigned the pistons ,covers and glands to take viton o'rings which are easier to fit than packing and work very well. There were a few leaks to fix and a lot of condensation but I was pleased with the results, I am going to make a dynamometer to estimate the power output but I was suprised - you can't stop the wheels with your fingers I have made the patterns for the connecting rods but havent had chance to cast them yet.

Hi abby
Nice way to test the set up. Is the excess condensation due to the boiler and pipe work!. Viton o'rings..... made to suit or can you buy them. As for my G1 its coming together and certainly has been a challenge for me, but I'm hooked and spend most evening till late in the shed.....Addicted or what..

The boiler is a lash-up and the pipe work etc must all be adding to the condensation , should really make the proper boiler. The o'rings are readily available I have 50 x 1/2" in stock and some quadra-lip. Unfortunately I don't have much time at present for my own project but I do have plenty of time for thinking!

Hey Abby
It must have been going quite fast to embed itself into that block of wood :-)
Looking good though.
Cheers
