I have come across mention of a vertical boiler designed by "E T WESTBURY" its described as a vertical solid fuel boiler. Has anyone come across any drawings and instructions for building this particular boiler. I have plans for a Tubal Cain but no building instructions I was sent what were thought to be the building instructions but alas were not. This boiler will I hope be used to power a small vertical engine built by my late grandfather.

Hello again Uzzy, I don't have any info about the particular boiler you mention but if you only need a basic boiler have a look at Simple Model Steam Engines by Tubal Cain for good instructions for easy build spirit or gas fired examples. For more complicated boilers see Model Boilers and Boilermaking by K.N.Harris. You can scale up or down to suit your needs. You can get copies from Tee Publishing, Camden Books, most model eng suppliers, probably your local lending library and your local ME club. There are of course many more excellent 'how to' articles in model eng. mags & books that I'm sure other contributors can recommend. Tim

Uzzy I seem to recall that ETW wrote about a boiler that he used for test purposes, in the Model Engineer in the early 1950's I will have a look in my copies and If I find it I will get back to you Reg Townsend
