Help required ! from the more knowledgeable on this site. How do i engage back gear on a 3" Kelson Lathe also any info on this lathe also sought. Have Just got one and am refurbishing for grandson. thanks all. Dave.

Not a make I have heard of, and nothing on Tony Griffiths site either. www.lathes.co.uk/Might be worth an email to Tony, who is a mine of information. As for selecting back gear, without seeing it, one can only guess. A photo or two might help.

Hi Dave,
It is possible the lathe was made and/or sold by Robert Kelly and sons, based in Manchester and Liverpool, who were trading in the 1920's. In ME there is a reference to a 'Kelson Lathe Toolholder' which was sold by them.

sorry for late reply but been on duty prepairing for this years cruise down the cut and away from workshop for a fortnight. thanks for the replys will send email as you suggest Alan. and thanks for the date John they certainly made things to last in those days just a small amount of backlash in cross slide. will take photos when i get back. dave
