My ML7 has recently (yesterday, it wasn't doing it the day before) decided to have a wierd problem with (as far as I cna tell) its belt tension. It manifests as the machine losing power to the headstock, to the point where it will stop under even light cuts. The motor stays running (3/4hp 3-phase on an inverter), as far as I can tell the drive to the countershaft is OK but the countershaft output (it's clutched) ceases to turn. It might be oil on the clutch I guess, but the countershaft feels very stiff when under tension, wheras with the belts de-tensioned everything is fine. I'm going to have a fiddle with it right now, but in ccase that doesn't get me a working lathe back does anyone have any ideas?

Had a fiddle last night and turns out it wasa combination of three things.... countershaft to mandrel belt was too tight, motor to countersaft was slack and the clutch needed tightening up..... I've got the handbook so I followed it for the belt settings, set the clutch so it felt right, ended up cheerfully taking 50 though cuts with a boring bar (16mm disposable tip type) in lowest open pretty much as fast as I could feed the tool in, that'll do for me!......
