Although slightly off topic ... when moving vertical/turret mills on fairly flat floors, use multiple 1" round stock as rollers. When the wrecker lifted my mill off the trailer and dropped it on the drive, we maneuvered it all the way into the garage using round stock, and finished off with a cherry picker/engine hoist to clear the rollers. weighed 2600lb and just my son and me, plus a few beers afterwards! Same technique we used to use in S-o-T many years ago.

You're quite right. I think I could stretch from a mini mill or X1L to a Warco economy or the largest Clarke mill with a budget or around £400 or so but I'd be interested to know what else people have managed to accuire for a little more money.
Its all a matter of luck, I think. The only other Aciera like mine that I've seen is currently on Ebay with an asking price of 8K! The other machine I would have considered was a Harrison universal mill and you do sometimes see these for around £400, but I'd recommend you to have a look at it first. I must admit I took a flyer with the Aciera, but in my case the gamble seems (so far) to have paid off.
If you do go for a chinese mill the only thing I'd say is go for the biggest you can afford/accommodate. The extra mass generally means greater rigidity under load.
